Universal Confirms Additional Jurassic Park Closures as Construction Expands at Islands of Adventure

Universal Orlando guests hoping to spend time with the dinosaurs at Islands of Adventure are facing additional disruptions as construction continues in one of the park's most recognizable lands.

What started as a temporary attraction refurbishment has turned into a much longer closure than originally anticipated. Now, visitors are encountering additional unavailable facilities and new construction activity around the popular attraction.

The latest developments suggest that work is continuing on several parts of the area, and guests planning upcoming vacations may want to adjust their expectations.

Jurassic Park River Adventure Remains Closed

Jurassic Park River Adventure has been a staple of Universal Islands of Adventure since the park opened in 1999.

Inspired by Jurassic Park (1993), the attraction takes visitors on a boat ride through a prehistoric environment filled with animatronic dinosaurs.

However, the peaceful journey eventually takes a dangerous turn, culminating in an encounter with a massive Tyrannosaurus rex and an 85-foot plunge.

Unfortunately, guests won't be experiencing that adventure anytime soon.

Jurassic Park River Adventure was originally expected to reopen on November 19, 2026. However, Universal extended the refurbishment, moving the anticipated reopening date to December 17, 2026.

The extension means visitors arriving during Thanksgiving and the beginning of the Christmas season will miss out on the attraction.

Universal has not provided a detailed explanation for the extended closure or confirmed exactly what improvements are taking place inside the ride.

Additional Closures Affect Jurassic Park Guests

The attraction itself isn't the only part of Jurassic Park currently unavailable.

The restrooms located at Jurassic Park River Adventure are also closed, creating another inconvenience for visitors exploring this section of Islands of Adventure.

Families with young children may find the additional closure particularly frustrating, especially when navigating a busy theme park.

Guests who would normally use these facilities will need to find alternative restrooms elsewhere in the park.

Meanwhile, another construction project has become visible near the attraction's entrance.

The roof covering the entrance to the Jurassic Park River Adventure queue is currently being rethatched.

The tropical-style roofing contributes to the attraction's prehistoric atmosphere, helping create the appearance of a remote dinosaur preserve.

Although rethatching might not sound like a significant change, maintaining these details helps preserve the immersive environment that has made Jurassic Park popular for decades.

Universal has not confirmed whether this particular project contributed to the extended refurbishment schedule.

When Will Jurassic Park River Adventure Reopen?

For now, Jurassic Park River Adventure is expected to welcome guests again on December 17, 2026.

That would put its return just ahead of the busy Christmas holiday period, when Universal Orlando typically welcomes large numbers of vacationers.

However, refurbishment schedules can change, and the attraction's reopening has already been delayed once.

The good news is that the entire Jurassic Park land has not closed.

Guests can still enjoy other available experiences, including Jurassic World VelociCoaster and the Jurassic Park Discovery Center.

Still, River Adventure offers something different from the surrounding attractions, combining classic dinosaur encounters with a thrilling finale.

With the ride closed, nearby restrooms unavailable, and construction continuing at the entrance, visitors should expect additional disruptions until the refurbishment concludes.

Whether these projects will result in noticeable improvements remains to be seen, but longtime fans will certainly be watching as December approaches.
