Disney World Files New Construction Permits, Raising Shutdown Concerns at Multiple Resorts

Walt Disney World is preparing for another round of construction, and this time, multiple popular resort hotels are involved.

Newly filed permits suggest that Disney has additional work planned at several locations across its hotel properties. While construction is nothing unusual at Disney World, the latest filings could raise questions for families preparing for upcoming vacations.

After all, nobody wants to spend thousands of dollars on a Disney vacation only to discover that construction could interfere with their stay.

And with a separate transportation shutdown already scheduled for early 2027, guests have another reason to pay attention.

Disney World Moves Forward With New Resort Construction

According to AllEars, Disney recently filed general-construction permits involving Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort and Disney's Old Key West Resort.

At Caribbean Beach, the permits reference areas associated with Trinidad, Barbados, and a parking or service corridor.

Meanwhile, another permit involves a building at Old Key West Resort.

WDW News Today also reported three additional construction notices involving Old Port Royale, the central area of Caribbean Beach Resort that houses several important guest amenities.

The filings indicate that work is being planned, but they do not reveal exactly what Disney intends to change.

More importantly, Disney has not announced any major hotel shutdowns connected to these permits.

That means guests should not assume that restaurants, pools, or other resort amenities will close. However, the number of construction filings raises understandable questions about what visitors could encounter during their stays.

Another Shutdown Is Already Coming in 2027

The construction news arrives as Disney prepares for a separate temporary closure affecting one of its most popular transportation systems.

The Disney Skyliner is scheduled to close from January 24 through January 30, 2027, for refurbishment.

During that period, Disney will provide bus transportation for affected guests.

This is particularly important for Caribbean Beach Resort, which serves as a major transportation hub for the Skyliner network.

Many families specifically choose Caribbean Beach because of its convenient connections to EPCOT and Disney's Hollywood Studios.

Losing access to that transportation option for an entire week could significantly change how those guests navigate their vacations.

However, the Skyliner refurbishment is a separate, confirmed project. Disney has not indicated that the newly filed hotel construction permits are connected to the transportation closure.

Could More Disney Resort Closures Be Coming?

For now, there is no confirmation that additional guest-facing closures will result from these construction projects.

Still, the uncertainty matters.

Disney resort hotels are expensive, and guests often select specific properties because of their amenities, transportation options, and overall atmosphere.

Even relatively minor construction can become frustrating when families are trying to relax between long days at the theme parks.

The good news is that maintenance and improvements are necessary to keep Disney's hotels operating properly.

But guests deserve advance notice when projects could affect their experience.

As Disney moves forward with these newly permitted projects, visitors staying at Caribbean Beach or Old Key West should keep an eye on official resort updates.

The construction permits do not confirm major shutdowns, but they do signal that more work is on the horizon at two familiar Disney World destinations.
