For more than eighteen months, booking an upscale stay along Walt Disney World’s Crescent Lake meant accepting a major compromise. Guests paying top-tier Deluxe rates at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort frequently opened their balcony curtains to green mesh screens, metallic framework, and the daytime hum of power sanders and paint sprayers.

Now, the visual intrusion has officially vanished.
Walt Disney World has removed all exterior refurbishment advisories for Disney’s Yacht Club Resort, marking the formal completion of a sprawling rehabilitation that began in the spring of 2025. With the final scaffolding taken down and equipment cleared, the iconic New England-style seaside retreat has emerged in pristine condition just in time for the peak holiday season.
Restoring a New England Classic Against the Florida Elements
Designed by renowned architect Robert A.M. Stern, Disney’s Yacht Club Resort opened in November 1990 as a tribute to late-nineteenth-century coastal towns like Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard. Its handsome gray clapboard siding, stark white trim, navy awnings, and prominent rooftop cupolas have made it a recognizable fixture across the water from Disney’s BoardWalk.

Yet maintaining an authentic seaside aesthetic in Central Florida’s harsh subtropical climate is a constant challenge. Intense ultraviolet radiation, high summer humidity, and heavy seasonal downpours steadily wear down building materials—fading paint, cracking caulking seals, and blistering exposed woodwork.
To preserve the building envelope, Disney launched what was intended to be a multi-month exterior refresh in early 2025. However, the scope expanded significantly, turning into an intensive, floor-by-floor restoration that ran through late 2026.
A Phased Overhaul on an Active Deluxe Property
Because Disney’s Yacht Club Resort is a high-demand Deluxe property that hosts families, Disney Vacation Club members, and large-scale corporate gatherings at the adjacent convention center, shutting down the hotel was out of the question.

Instead, maintenance and engineering teams tackled the project in rolling phases:
- Segmented Scaffolding: Construction crews moved wing by wing, enclosing individual sections in scaffolding and heavy privacy scrims. This allowed workers to power-wash, repair damaged siding, and apply fresh coats of weather-resistant enamel before shifting to the next section.
- Balcony and Railing Restoration: Ornamental railings and private guest balconies were systematically evaluated, reinforced, and resealed against water intrusion.
- Porte-Cochère and Public Spaces: At the height of the project, construction barriers extended into the resort's central entrance, temporarily rerouting arriving guests while workers refreshed the exterior lobby facades.
- Interior Dining Synergies: The outdoor overhaul coincided with scheduled interior updates. The Yachtsman Steakhouse and the adjacent Crew’s Cup Lounge both underwent interior refurbishments, ensuring the resort's signature culinary spaces were ready to welcome guests upon the exterior's completion.
Crescent Lake Returns to Form
The completion of the project restores the unobstructed beauty of the Crescent Lake resort corridor.

Visitors to Disney’s Yacht Club will notice an immediate difference across the grounds:
- The Stormalong Bay Boardwalk: The main lakeside promenade between the resort lobby and the Stormalong Bay pool complex is free of cherry pickers, barricades, and temporary staging zones.
- The Wedding Gazebo: The manicured waterfront lawns and ceremonial gazebo—popular spots for Disney Fairytale Weddings—are completely clear of background construction equipment.
- Lighthouse Pier Sightlines: Guests boarding FriendShip water taxis bound for EPCOT and Disney’s Hollywood Studios now look back at an uninterrupted, gleaming resort facade.
Beach Club Work and Skyliner Downtime Ahead
While the Yacht Club has crossed the finish line, maintenance across Crescent Lake continues. Next door at Disney’s Beach Club Resort, exterior and roof repairs are ongoing, with Disney previously updating its operational schedules to extend work into 2027.

Furthermore, Disney has notified guests of scheduled routine maintenance for the Disney Skyliner, which connects nearby EPCOT’s International Gateway to Hollywood Studios and surrounding resorts. The aerial gondola system is scheduled to pause operations during two upcoming winter windows:
- January 24 through January 30, 2027
- January 24 through February 2, 2028
Complimentary bus transportation will be provided across all affected routes while the Skyliner is offline.
A Seamless Holiday Welcome
The timing of the project’s finish could hardly be better. The final construction advisories were pulled just one day after the Yacht Club’s 36th anniversary on November 5, and right before the official kickoff of Walt Disney World’s holiday season on November 13.

For travelers heading to Crescent Lake for Thanksgiving, Christmas, or an EPCOT festival weekend, Disney's Yacht Club Resort is once again offering the polished, unobstructed seaside retreat guests expect.
