Car Derails on Iconic Disney Attraction

On July 17, 1955, Walt Disney changed the theme park industry with the opening of Disneyland in Anaheim, California. Since then, Disney has expanded exponentially and now has theme parks in Orlando, Shanghai, Tokyo, Paris, and Hong Kong. However, that original Disney magic can only be found at Disneyland Park.

One of the really cool things about Disneyland is that there are still a number of rides and attractions that were there when the theme park opened nearly 70 years ago. Guests can still ride attractions like the Disneyland Railroad, the Jungle Cruise, King Arthur Carrousel, Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride, Peter Pan’s Flight, Autopia, and so many more. Despite the ages of the attractions, Disney cast members still work incredibly hard to keep the rides in tip-top condition.

Autopia is the only opening-day attraction that is left in Tomorrowland. Guests board the car and drive it through the land, going down hills and taking sharp turns. For those who are unfamiliar, there is a bar that runs down the middle of the road, which is to prevent cars from driving off the track. At least, that is what it is supposed to do.

However, that bar apparently didn’t work at some point. La-guerita4u recently posted a video of a trip that she took to Disneyland. While there, she and her party went on Autopia. They were shocked when they encountered a car that had actually derailed.

Many commenters were shocked that the cars could actually derail, since the ride is designed to prevent that from happening. However, one woman said that she and her sister, when they were younger, used to be able to derail their car.

My sister and I used to do this on purpose when we were dumb teenagers. There is a hill that you can get enough speed and turn the wheel just right and derail the front end of the autopilot car. Lol kids man.

The video makes it hard to see the person who was driving the car, but they do look like they could be a teenage boy or a man in his early 20s. We also don’t know if it was done on purpose, but it seems incredibly hard to do it accidentally.
