If you’ve ever spent a day at Magic Kingdom’s Fantasyland, you know that Dumbo the Flying Elephant is more than just a ride—it’s an icon.

But even icons need a little TLC now and then, and Disney’s latest permits hint that this family favorite is about to get a big refresh. With two contractors assigned to the project, fans can expect some significant updates to the interactive queue area that’s been wowing kids and parents since 2012.

The permits in question involve Premus of Orlando, a contractor specializing in floor coatings, and West Coast Netting, known for creating durable netting solutions. This combination points to updates in the queue’s flooring and playground safety features. Whether it’s a fresh coat of circus-themed flooring or a complete redesign, these changes promise to keep the area safe and fun for years to come.

For those who might not know, Dumbo received its current queue during the Fantasyland expansion more than a decade ago. This upgrade added a second ride spinner and a circus tent-themed queue with an innovative twist: instead of standing in a traditional line, families are given pagers that let kids explore a whimsical play area until it’s their turn to ride. It’s a hit with parents and little ones alike, making the wait almost as fun as the ride itself.

What could these changes mean for guests? While Disney hasn’t shared specifics, updates like this are usually a sign of great things to come. The flooring might feature a fresh new design, while the netting could add an extra layer of safety or even contribute to an updated look for the play space.

And knowing Disney, there’s always a chance for a little surprise or two to make the experience even more magical.

In the meantime, guests visiting Dumbo may encounter some temporary closures or construction walls in the queue area, but Disney is known for keeping attractions running smoothly during upgrades. Whether you’re soaring high above Fantasyland or watching your kids enjoy the circus-themed play zone, Dumbo is still the perfect way to create magical memories.

As we wait for more details, one thing is certain: Dumbo the Flying Elephant will continue to hold a special place in our hearts, and these updates will ensure it stays just as enchanting for future visitors.
