For those of us of a certain age, Beverly Hills, 90210 was the defining show of our adolescence and young adulthood. The show started in 1990, following Brendan and Brenda Walsh navigating the perils of high school, college, and eventually adulthood. Even after the two stars left the show, we continued with their friends, Kelly, Dylan, Steve, David, and Donna.

One of the show’s defining moments was early in the college years when Shannen Doherty’s Brenda Walsh ran off to marry Stuart Carson, played by David Gail. The marriage wasn’t to be, and Stuart Carson was written off the show, and with it, David Gail left the Beverly Hills, 90210 universe.

Sadly, David Gail died on Saturday at 58. No cause of death was given.

Katie Colmenares, Gail’s sister, announced his death on Instagram:

There’s barely been even a day in my life when you were not with me by my side, always my wingman always my best friend ready to face anything and anyone with me,” she wrote, alongside a photo of the two siblings hugging. I will hold you so tight every day in my heart, you gorgeous loving amazing fierce human being. Missing you every second of every day forever there will never be another.

David Gail was born in Tampa Bay and began his acting career in 1990 with a guest appearance on Growing Pains. He followed that up with appearances on Doogie Hower, M.D., Murder, She Wrote, and Matlock. After those guest appearances, Gail got his back break on an eight-episode run on Beverly Hill, 90210.

Gail turned his 90210 run into the role of Dean Collins on the W.B.’s Savannah. After two seasons on Savannah, Gail took the role of Dr. Joe Scanlon on ABC’s Port Charles, a spinoff of ABC’s General Hospital. He starred in 216 episodes of the show.

After his run on television, Gail made the jump to the big screen, starring in Some Girl (1998), Bending All the Rules (2001), and Perfect Opposites (2004). He also made guest appearances on E.R. and JAG.

In recent years, Gail made guest appearances on Beverly Hills, 90210 podcasts, and he became a voice actor.

Director and producer Peter Ferriero, who worked on one of those podcasts with actor David Gail, said:

He was a kind human. Someone I wish I spoke to more. He was (full) of life and incredible stories. I am grateful I got to know (him). I am so saddened for your loss, and the world’s loss. He was a gift to us all.

Ferriero also noted that the Gail family would give more details about David’s death “at the appropriate time.”
