Magic Kingdom is getting ready to embrace its darker side, and Disney just revealed what guests will find when they finally enter Villains Land.
The company made Villains Land one of its biggest announcements at D23 in 2024, confirming plans for two major attractions alongside dining and shopping. But Disney left fans with artwork and plenty of unanswered questions about those rides.

At D23 2026, Imagineers finally filled in some of those blanks.
Disney officially confirmed the Villains Land name and revealed that its two headlining attractions will include a Maleficent coaster and a Magic Mirror-hosted dark ride filled with Disney Villains.
We also finally know the story connecting all of it.
An Evil Wish Changes Magic Kingdom
Villains Land won't simply place a group of recognizable villains in the same corner of Magic Kingdom without an explanation.
Disney has created an original fairytale for the expansion.
The story begins deep within a threatening forest, where guests will discover a Wishing Well that has been destroyed. According to Disney, someone once made an evil wish there that corrupted the Well, broke apart its stone and released poisoned magic into the surrounding area.

Naturally, that kind of power caught the attention of Disney's villains.
They eventually arrived hoping to claim what remained of the Well's magic. Villains who tapped into that power used it to create elaborate lairs, fortresses and palaces reflecting their individual personalities.
Those locations form the larger world guests will explore.
And one of the most recognizable Disney Villains will be waiting inside.
Guests Will Race Through Maleficent's Fortress
Maleficent will headline Villains Land's coaster.
Disney says riders will come face-to-face with the Mistress of All Evil before racing through enchanted briars surrounding her mountaintop fortress.

The new concept provides a darker setting than guests typically associate with Magic Kingdom. Twisted vegetation and Maleficent‘s imposing home create the backdrop for an attraction that Disney clearly wants to position as one of the land's biggest draws.
Imagineers are keeping the biggest technical details secret.
However, Disney says the coaster will contain elements the company has never attempted on similar attractions before.
Exactly what that means remains unknown, but it gives Disney plenty more to reveal as construction and development continue.
Enter the Mirror Realm
The second major attraction takes guests somewhere completely different.
Disney is building a dark ride hosted by the Magic Mirror.
Guests will discover him beneath the Evil Queen's palace, hidden away in the catacombs. From there, the Magic Mirror transports riders beyond the glass and into a mysterious place called the Mirror Realm.
That's where Disney can really expand the villain roster.
The attraction will feature numerous Disney Villains, with Imagineers using physical scenery and special effects to create the characters and strange environments surrounding them.
Disney hasn't revealed the complete character lineup, so some of the attraction's biggest surprises remain under wraps.
Villains Land Is Taking Shape
These announcements finally give Villains Land a clearer identity.
Disney isn't building two unrelated rides and surrounding them with villain decorations. The corrupted Wishing Well provides an original story connecting the characters, attractions, buildings and environments.

Disney has also compared the size and scale of Villains Land to Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge, indicating guests should expect a substantial area to explore rather than a small expansion.
The land's visual identity will be equally important.
Imagineers traveled to Paris and Barcelona while developing the project and drew inspiration from Art Nouveau and Modernisme. Disney calls its resulting design approach “Conjured Architecture,” creating structures that appear to have been formed through magic.
There is still plenty Disney hasn't told us.
But two years after Villains Land was announced, the biggest pieces are finally falling into place.
Maleficent is getting a coaster. The Magic Mirror is leading guests into a dark ride filled with villains. An evil wish explains how this strange new world came to exist.
Magic Kingdom's darkest expansion is becoming much easier to imagine.
