Star Wars fans are getting a brand-new way to experience the galaxy far, far away in 2027, with an official exhibition promising rare props, iconic characters, immersive environments, and a behind-the-scenes look at one of the world's biggest entertainment franchises.
However, unlike Disney Parks attractions that place guests inside the faraway galaxy, the newly revealed Star Wars: The Experience – A Journey Through the Galaxy focuses on how the saga was created, celebrating five decades of filmmaking, visual effects, creature design, and storytelling. The new project was revealed at this year's San Diego Comic-Con.
Star Wars Set to Celebrate in Style as Franchise Turns 50 in 2027
Star Wars: The Experience – A Journey Through the Galaxy is “the largest and most comprehensive behind-the-scenes traveling exhibition to date,” according to StarWars.com.
Launching at The Franklin Institute in Philadelphia on February 13, 2027, the exhibition marks the Star Wars franchise‘s 50th anniversary before embarking on a five-year North American tour. Guests will explore immersive recreations inspired by locations throughout the saga, including Queen Amidala's Throne Room from the prequel trilogy and a full-scale Han Solo-in-carbonite photo opportunity.
The experience will also showcase original costumes, props, droids, and creatures spanning the entire franchise, from Darth Vader's iconic helmet from the original trilogy to Grogu from The Mandalorian (2019) and The Mandalorian & Grogu (2026), as well as iconic droids such as C-3PO, R2-D2, both of whom have appeared in almost every Star Wars film.

Rather than focusing solely on the films, the exhibition explores Star Wars‘ evolution across movies, streaming series, animation, publishing, gaming, and theme park experiences, highlighting how George Lucas' original 1977 blockbuster quickly grew into one of the world's biggest entertainment brands.
“Lucasfilm has always been at the forefront of merging cutting edge technology and limitless storytelling,” Lynwen Brennan, Co-President of Lucasfilm, says of the new experience, per StarWars.com.
“In collaboration with The Franklin Institute, we are creating an experience that reflects that very spirit of curiosity and creativity. As we mark the incredible milestone of the 50th anniversary of Star Wars, we wanted to develop something truly extraordinary — a space that honors both the visionary pioneers who built this galaxy, and the remarkable fan community at its heart. ‘Star Wars: The Experience' is a testament to five decades of innovative storytelling, and we are excited for visitors to immerse themselves in the Star Wars legacy through this new exhibition.”
Disney Parks remain home to attractions including Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, which can be found at Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge, and other rides such as Star Tours — The Adventures Continue.
But this new exhibition offers something entirely different: a chance to step behind the curtain and discover how the galaxy far, far away was brought to life.
Tickets for A Journey Through the Galaxy go on sale in November. The exhibition will run from February 13 to September 6, 2027.
The exhibition is just one part of Lucasfilm's plans for the 50th anniversary. The studio is also celebrating the milestone with a historic Welsh-language version of Star Wars: Episode IV — A New Hope (1977), titled Star Wars: Gobaith Newydd.
