‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ Classic Series Set to Stream on Non-Disney Service in 2025

Buffy the Vampire Slayer isn’t just a show—it’s a phenomenon that forever altered the teen television landscape. Since its debut in 1997, the series has captivated audiences with its dynamic mix of supernatural drama, humor, and action. More than two decades later, its appeal hasn’t waned, and characters like Willow Rosenberg (Alyson Hannigan), Spike (James Marsters), and Giles (Anthony Head) continue to resonate with viewers decades later.

Starring Sarah Michelle Gellar as Buffy Summers, the series tells the story of a teenager burdened with the destiny of the “Chosen One.” As the Slayer, Buffy must protect Sunnydale from an onslaught of vampires, demons, and other monsters, all while navigating the trials of high school and young adulthood. The show ran for seven seasons, from 1997 to 2003, alongside hits like Friends, firmly cementing its place in pop culture history.

Beyond its on-screen success, Buffy’s influence extended far and wide. The spinoff series Angel (1999–2004) explored deeper themes while maintaining the Buffyverse’s signature style. Meanwhile, fans devoured tie-in merchandise such as novels, video games, and action figures. Even today, new graphic novels and audiobooks continue to expand the franchise’s lore.

Talks of a reboot have swirled for years, tantalizing devoted fans. Dolly Parton, an uncredited producer on the original series, recently confirmed that discussions about a revival are ongoing, though no concrete announcements have been made.

The franchise found a new home on Disney+ in 2021 after Disney acquired 20th Century Fox. The availability of Buffy and Angel on the streaming service introduced the series to a fresh audience while giving longtime fans an easy way to revisit the show. But for UK fans without Disney+, there’s even better news: Buffy the Vampire Slayer is headed to ITVX.

Set to stream on ITVX in early 2025, this marks a new era for British fans who have yet to explore Sunnydale’s adventures. All seven seasons, encompassing 145 episodes, will soon be available on the platform. The release, announced as part of ITV’s January–March 2025 lineup, promises to bring Buffy’s thrilling battles, heartfelt moments, and sharp wit to an even wider audience. Unfortunately, Angel isn’t part of the ITVX package—at least for now.
