‘Star Wars’ Unveils New Designs for Luke, Han, and Leia in Upcoming Crossover Project

Few movie characters have been reimagined as many times as the heroes of Star Wars.

Since Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, and Han Solo first appeared in Star Wars: A New Hope (1977), the trio has been redesigned and reinterpreted countless times across novels, comic books, animated series, video games, toys, collectibles, and more.

Different artists and creators have offered their own takes on the galaxy far, far away's most famous heroes, allowing Luke, Leia, and Han to appear in countless different forms while remaining instantly recognizable.

But they've never been reimagined quite like this.

As Star Wars prepares to celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2027, Lucasfilm is bringing its original heroes into an unexpected new crossover that places them alongside some of Marvel's most recognizable characters.

A New Look for Star Wars‘ Original Heroes

Marvel Comics and Lucasfilm Publishing have announced Star Wars/Marvel: Hope Assembles, a five-part limited comic book series that will bring the two franchises together.

Marvel.com has also unveiled a first look at the project, revealing Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Han Solo, Chewbacca, C-3PO, R2-D2, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Darth Vader alongside some of Marvel's biggest heroes and villains.

The artwork features the Star Wars characters as they appeared during the events of A New Hope, while Marvel's lineup includes Spider-Man, Doctor Doom, Scarlet Witch, Iron Man, The Hulk, Deadpool, Black Widow, Thor, Wolverine, and the Fantastic Four.

The story will take the events of A New Hope and place them within Marvel's Earth-616. Following a reality-shattering spell, Earth's Mightiest Heroes will witness the events of the original Star Wars story unfold around them.

That means the likes of Luke, Han, Leia, and Chewbacca will find themselves sharing the same adventure as Marvel's superheroes, changing the course of one of the most famous stories in movie history.

Star Wars/Marvel: Hope Assembles #1 is scheduled to launch in January 2027.

The crossover will form part of the wider celebrations surrounding the 50th anniversary of A New Hope, alongside a Welsh redub of the original film and Star Wars: The Experience – A Journey Through the Galaxy, an exhibition opening in Philadelphia in February 2027.
