Severe weather forced Busch Gardens Tampa Bay to shut its gates early last week, cutting a Thursday visit short for guests already inside the Central Florida theme park.
The Closure Announcement
Busch Gardens Tampa Bay posted an Instagram story on August 27, alerting guests to the sudden closure, writing:
“Due to inclement weather, Busch Gardens is closed for the rest of today, Aug. 27.
We hope to see you soon!”
The shutdown followed a weather alert issued by local authorities for the Tampa area on Thursday afternoon, according to the Tampa Bay Times. Strong thunderstorms rolled through the region, accompanied by wind gusts up to 40 mph, prompting the outdoor, wildlife-themed park to close for guest safety.
What Guests Can Do About It
Busch Gardens Tampa Bay operates under United Parks & Resorts, the same parent company behind SeaWorld, and follows a “Worry-Free Fun” policy known as the Weather-or-Not Assurance for situations like this one.
Under that policy, guests are eligible for a complimentary return visit if inclement weather triggers an early closure, disrupts normal operating hours, shuts down rides for more than 60 minutes, or pushes the heat index inside the park to 110 degrees Fahrenheit or higher.
Affected guests can request a replacement ticket either at Guest Services or through the park's online form, but the request must be submitted within one week of the affected visit. Nearly all ticket types qualify, except for select promotional admissions.
Current Park Status
Busch Gardens Tampa Bay reopened on schedule the following day, Friday, August 28, and ran normally through the weekend on both Saturday and Sunday. Guests can expect the park to be open from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Monday, August 31.
Looking ahead, the park is preparing for its annual Howl-O-Scream event, which runs from 7:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. on select nights between September 11 and October 31, 2026. Most Howl-O-Scream weekends also feature the daytime, family-friendly Halloween Spooktacular for guests of all ages.
