“Welcome aboard the Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover…”
The classic attraction that moves Park Guests with an elevated tram through the Tomorrowland portion of Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom Park is a Disney nostalgia. Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover offers that perfect dose of relaxation while keeping Guests interested in behind-the-scenes spaces like Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin and Space Mountain.
The journey is narrated as it guides Guests through Tomorrowland with a unique vantage point and view of the architectural models of Progress City, the prototype for EPCOT. But, signs are now pointing to possible changes on the horizon.
Specifically… what you’ll HEAR on PeopleMover. That’s right, a new voice-over casting call has made its way around the internet prompting Disney fans to believe we can expect a new narration.
@MarissaTheMoth took to Twitter saying, “I’m pretty sure they’re updating the Peoplemover, so maybe there is hope. (Who am I kidding lol).” She follows the tweet up with another saying, “My friend sent me a VA casting call blurb for something called “ORAC”, so at the very least they must be updating the voice acting on the PeopleMover. ORAC-1 was the name of the announcer from 85-94, so it’s possible they have more plans in motion.”
To prove her point, she shares a screenshot of the casting call for the voice-over position, noting “Proof. I’m not a rumor monger lmao.”
In the screenshot, you can see that while PeopleMover is not mentioned in the release, it is noted as a “voice-over for a classic attraction at major theme park.” The use of “ORAC” is especially interesting as “ORAC-1” was the name for the announcer for PeopleMover in the past. The storyline also notes, “An enthusiastic Al takes us on a tour of a futuristic land”… which well, pretty much sums up the PeopleMover ride!
@MarissaTheMoth further comments, “I’m going to add that it’s not an open casting call – my friend leaked this screenshot from a casting website meant for agents and professionals, and I did ask him if it was fine if I shared it. Something tells me this wasn’t supposed to get out into the open so let’s be civil.”
Of course, keep in mind Walt Disney World Resort is in the midst of constructing the new highly-anticipated TRON Lightcycle Run coaster in Tomorrowland. As you cruise along on PeopleMover, you can see an excellent vantage point of Tomorrowland Speedway along with its neighboring incoming attraction. Our best guess is Disney is likely working to incorporate the new attraction into the PeopleMover narration.
We’ll keep you posted as we learn more about this possible PeopleMover change as the story unfolds. As long as Disney leaves in the classic “Paging Mr. Morrow, Mr. Tom Morrow”, we’re sure Disney fans will be interested in a narration update.
