Confirmed: Iconic Location Set to Close at Walt Disney World, Effective This Spring

Disney World is always evolving, and that often means some of its most beloved attractions and experiences have to close—at least for a little while. Right now, construction and refurbishments are happening all over the resort, and for guests visiting soon, this could mean a very different experience than expected.

In Magic Kingdom, two iconic attractions are temporarily shut down. Astro Orbiter, the rocket-spinner perched high above Tomorrowland, is undergoing an extended refurbishment, leaving that part of the park feeling a little emptier. Over in Frontierland, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is also closed, which means one of the park’s most thrilling coasters is off-limits for now. EPCOT is set to see major changes too, with Test Track scheduled for an overhaul in the near future.

Animal Kingdom, however, is seeing perhaps the biggest transformation of all. The longtime DinoLand U.S.A. section is being phased out, with demolition already underway to make room for the new Tropical Americas expansion. Attractions like DINOSAUR are on borrowed time, and while the incoming changes are exciting, it’s still a bittersweet moment for fans of the land’s original theming.

But while all of these massive updates are happening, another closure is flying under the radar. Whispering Canyon Cafe, the lively and interactive restaurant inside Disney’s Wilderness Lodge, is set to shut down for a brief refurbishment this spring. The closure will run from May 12 to May 21, 2025, meaning guests visiting during that time will need to make alternate dining plans.

This restaurant is a fan-favorite for good reason. It’s known not just for its hearty, all-you-can-eat skillets but for its over-the-top, hilarious service. Servers here don’t just take your order—they make a show out of it, often engaging in playful antics that add to the fun. Whispering Canyon is one of the most unique dining experiences at Disney World, which is why even a short closure is disappointing to those who love it.

For guests who plan to eat there, Wilderness Lodge still has some great alternatives, including Geyser Point Bar & Grill, Territory Lounge, and the enchanting Story Book Dining at Artist Point with Snow White. But none of these quite capture the raucous energy that makes Whispering Canyon such a standout.

With Disney World continuing to evolve and change, it’s always a good idea to check ahead and see what’s open before finalizing vacation plans. The good news? Whispering Canyon Cafe will be back before summer kicks into high gear, ready to serve up its signature fun once again.
