A Disneyland Resort guest recently caused a stir online after sharing a complaint about air holes in their beignets. While many Disney Parks fans came to the snack’s defense, the controversy has highlighted how little some people know about this iconic treat.
The Legacy of Beignets at Disneyland Resort
Beignets have a storied history, originating in France before becoming a beloved staple of New Orleans cuisine. At Disneyland Resort, these airy, powdered sugar-coated treats have become synonymous with New Orleans Square. Guests can find Mickey Mouse-shaped beignets at the Mint Julep Bar and Tiana’s Palace, where seasonal flavors like pumpkin spice and strawberry cream often join the menu alongside the classic snack.
Third-party vendors like Jazz Kitchen Coastal Grill & Patio and Beignets Expressed in Downtown Disney District offer alternatives for those who prefer the traditional Creole rectangular beignets. These locations also feature unique dipping sauces that sweeten the beignet experience.
A Beignet Debate
Despite their popularity, not everyone is a fan of Disneyland Resort‘s beignets. When one guest took to Reddit to complain about their beignet being “hollow,” the Disney Parks community was quick to respond.
“I’m from New Orleans,” u/dr_henry_jones commented. “This is how they’re supposed to be. A good beignet is mostly hollow…A beignet that isn’t hollow is just pretty much a donut.”
Another user highlighted the benefits of the beignet’s airy structure.
“Which makes them perfect for the dipping sauces you can get at Beignet Xpress!” u/renedotmac replied.
Still, some Disney Parks fans agreed with the original complaint, saying that Disneyland’s beignets sometimes take the airiness too far.
“I know they’re supposed to be somewhat hollow and airy, but this is crazy,” said u/F0ur20Memez.
“When I’ve had the Mickey ones they have been hollow too,” u/BoobySlap_0506 added. “Jazz Kitchen is the place to go for beignets!”
Beignets at Walt Disney World Resort
Beignets aren’t exclusive to Disneyland Resort anymore. Walt Disney World Resort has embraced the fried treats as well, offering them at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – French Quarter, Les Halles Boulangerie-Patisserie in EPCOT’s France Pavilion, and Golden Oak Outpost near Tiana’s Bayou Adventure in Magic Kingdom Park.
