DeSantis and the CFTOD Building a New Disney World Resort? Not So Fast…

Disney fans, get ready to rev up your imaginations! We’ve all seen it before: grand announcements of park expansions, thrilling new rides, and even entire rethemed areas that seem to fizzle out. But here’s a twist that might have you on the edge of your seat. Recent buzz is swirling around a mysterious new filing from the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District (CFTOD), formerly known as Reedy Creek.

This filing hints at the possibility of a new hotel at Disney World—or maybe not a new hotel at all. Confused? Let’s break it down. The intriguingly labeled “Project S” filing suggests that the CFTOD is considering a Master Services Agreement for installing new electrical transformers. According to the document, the project aims to set up a new transformer service yard, a transformer loop, and SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) monitoring cabinets for a “new resort.”

Sounds pretty straightforward, right? But the plot thickens. Just recently, Disney filed for a permit to refurbish the Wilderness Lodge, adding fuel to the fire that the Reflections — A Disney Lakeside Lodge project might not be dead after all. This new permit is for “site and facility improvements,” with Balfour Beatty as the contractor.

From Death…to Life

The work is set to take place near the Copper Creek Villas and Cascade Cabins—the very area where Reflections was supposed to make its grand debut. Disney first announced Reflections—A Disney Lakeside Lodge in 2018 for those needing a refresher. The resort was slated to rise on Bay Lake, between Disney’s Wilderness Lodge and Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground, on the land formerly known as River Country.

This deluxe resort was planned to feature over 900 rooms, including a mix of Disney Vacation Club villas and a Princess and the Frog-themed restaurant. Concept art was released, and then… silence. Disney hasn’t officially confirmed anything about this potential project, but the recent filings have certainly reignited hope that something exciting might be on the horizon. And here’s an intriguing twist: this isn’t the first time we’ve seen a “Project S” at Disney.

When Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind was under construction at EPCOT, we noticed a permit with the same “Project S” label. Could this be Disney’s secret code for keeping projects under wraps? So, what does all this mean for Disney World fans?

Whether it’s the original Reflections project or something entirely new, we’re keeping our fingers crossed for more updates. Stay tuned and keep your eyes peeled—Disney might have some magical surprises for everyone.

Since first stepping inside the Magic Kingdom at nine years old, I knew I was destined to be a theme Park enthusiast. Although I consider myself a theme Park junkie, I still have much to learn and discover about Disney. Universal Orlando Resort has my heart; being an Annual Passholder means visiting my favorite places on Earth when possible! When I’m not writing about Disney, Universal, or entertainment news, you’ll find me cruising on my motorcycle, hiking throughout my local metro parks, or spending quality time with my girlfriend, family, or friends.
