Disney Cruise Line’s newest ship made its press debut last week, and the rollout of one on board policy left a long line of unhappy guests snaking toward Guest Services.
Disney Adventure’s Big Moment

Disney Adventure is a milestone for Disney Cruise Line in more ways than one. The ship, acquired after its original owner went bankrupt and left it nearly finished in a German warehouse, is now the largest vessel in the fleet and the company’s first designed specifically for the Asian market. Maiden voyages of three and four nights departing from Singapore are on the horizon, and the ship arrives with an impressive list of firsts: Duffy and Friends entertainment and shopping, the Ironcycle Test Run roller coaster at sea, and the open-air Disney Imagination Garden courtyard with its own stage.
Thousands of journalists, influencers, vloggers, and other press guests are currently aboard for an inaugural sailing ahead of the public launch.
A Booking System That Left Guests Out in the Cold

Here’s where things went sideways. Character meet-and-greets and access to souvenir shopping on Disney Adventure operate through a timeslot booking system in the Disney Cruise Line app. The slots are free, but they’re finite. On the press voyage, they evaporated almost instantly. Guests who didn’t secure a booking in time found themselves locked out of hugging Duffy the Disney Bear or picking up a souvenir for the entire sailing.
WDWNT, one of the outlets aboard the cruise, captured the fallout on X (formerly Twitter), posting a photo of the Guest Services line that formed in response and calling out the communication breakdown directly:
There’s a giant line at Guest Services because the booking for character meet & greets and shopping aboard the Disney Adventure filled near instantly. We were told erroneously that the shops would be standby tonight, but I guess not.
Why wasn’t this communicated to guests properly?

Guests who had missed out on bookings were reportedly told the merchandise locations would open via a standby queue, but this never happened, leaving them with no opportunity to shop at any point during the voyage.

Disney Cruise Line has not publicly addressed the complaints.
