Overnight, Disney Updated Historic Theme Park Entrance in California

Guests walking through the entrance to Disneyland Park on Tuesday morning encountered something that wasn't there the night before. The construction walls now surrounding a merchandise kiosk at the start of Main Street, U.S.A., confirm that another refurbishment project has begun without any advance notice.

WDWNT reported on Tuesday that aquamarine plywood construction barriers and scrim-covered scaffolding had been installed around a merchandise kiosk located inside the Main Street, U.S.A., area at Disneyland Park, just past the left-side entrance beneath the Disneyland Railroad station. The outlet shared a photo of the scene — the barriers surround most of the kiosk, with dark green scrim-covered scaffolding visible rising above the plywood walls.

A pair of trash and recycling bins has been placed in front of the construction walls, consistent with Walt Disney's founding principle of keeping waste receptacles no more than 30 feet apart throughout the theme parks. Frame displays on the sides of the barriers, which sometimes carry guest-facing messaging, are currently empty. A cast member access door is built into the aquamarine wooden barriers.

Disneyland Resort has not commented on the project, provided a timeline for completion, or opened a temporary merchandise location nearby to replace the shuttered kiosk during construction. Guests looking to shop during their visit should consider the Emporium and other Main Street, U.S.A., retail locations in the meantime.

A Broader Moment of Change at the Disneyland Entrance

The kiosk construction arrives alongside a separate but potentially related development. Disneyland Resort recently filed permits to demolish four ticket booths in the esplanade between Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park. Whether the two projects are connected or are simply happening in parallel hasn't been confirmed.

Together, the activity suggests that the Disneyland Park entrance area — one of the most visited and photographed spaces in the history of the theme park — may be in the early stages of a more comprehensive transformation.
