Here’s When ‘Inside Out 2’ Will Stream on Disney+!

On June 19, 2015, Disney and Pixar brought the emotions inside our heads to life with the release of the film Inside Out. The movie tells the story of Riley, a young girl who is struggling to adapt to her new life after her parents move her from Minnesota to San Francisco. Riley’s emotions — Joy, Sadness, Disgust, Fear, and Anger — try their best, but nothing ever goes according to plan. Eventually, Riley learns that her new life can be just as amazing as her old one.

Inside Out was a huge hit, but Disney didn’t immediately talk about a sequel. Then, four years later, Pixar announced that the emotions inside Riley’s head would be returning for a sequel film.

After four years, Inside Out 2 was released in theaters worldwide on June 14, 2024. And while Inside Out was a hit, Inside Out 2 blew the original movie out of the water. In fact, it blew every other summer release and nearly every other Disney movie out of the water. In its first weekend, the film made almost $300 million — more than double what was expected.

‘Inside Out 2′ Gets Streaming Date!

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Disney had to completely change its theatrical release plans. Certain films, like Mulan (2020) and Cruella (2021), were released straight to Disney+. Then, once audiences could safely venture back into theaters, Disney began showing its movies in theaters but then released them on Disney+ about 45 days later.

However, that has changed in the past year, with Disney’s Wish not premiering on Disney+ until 133 days after its theatrical release. That still holds the record, even with Disney’s announcement of Inside Out 2‘s streaming release date. Yes, you read that correctly. We FINALLY when Inside Out 2 will be available on Disney+!

According to Disney, Inside Out 2 will be available to stream on Disney+ on September 25! And we don’t know about you, but we can’t wait! So, be sure to mark your calendars!

Inside Out 2 Breaking Records

In the weeks following its release, Inside Out 2 began breaking records left and right.

Eight days after its release, Inside Out 2 became the first animated movie to earn $100 million in ticket sales in its second weekend at the box office. Before that, the record for the most successful second weekend for an animated film was held by The Super Mario Bros. Movie (2023), which earned $92 million. And only six movies ever made have had a better second box office weekend.

Less than one month after its release, Inside Out 2 made history after it passed the $1.25 billion mark. After surpassing that box office number, it became the most successful film in Pixar history. Prior to Inside Out 2, Pixar’s most successful film was actually Incredibles 2, which had earned $1.24 billion at the box office.

As if that wasn’t amazing enough, since then, Inside Out 2 passed $600 million in domestic box office earnings and $1.46 million in global box office earnings. That launched the new movie past Frozen II (2019) and The Lion King (2019) remake, making it the most successful animated film of all time!

Disney+ Discounts

The streaming release of Inside Out 2 comes as Disney is trying to draw more subscribers to its Disney+ streaming platform.

On September 12, Disney+ began offering steep discounts and big perks to new subscribers. New subscribers could sign up for the ad-based tier for just $1.99 per month for three months — which was the extension of an earlier offer. In addition to that, new subscribers will also be entered into a sweepstakes to win a Disney cruise, get 15% off Loungefly merchandise, 15% off Funko merchandise, and more.
