Tampa Bay shoppers know the tradeoff: discounted Walt Disney World merchandise can mean committing to an Interstate 4 run toward Orlando before the shopping even begins. That could soon change.
Disney has confirmed a Disney Character Warehouse at Tampa Premium Outlets through two Walt Disney World Resort job listings posted in August 2026. The company hasn’t issued a consumer announcement, and it hasn’t told shoppers when the store will open.
That leaves Tampa residents with unusually solid evidence of a new Disney retail location, but no date to circle. The jobs identify the destination; Disney’s public-facing details haven’t caught up.

Disney Character Warehouse Appears in Two Official Listings
The strongest evidence comes directly from Disney Careers. An official listing for a merchandise inventory specialist, posted August 6, names the workplace as “Disney Character Warehouse, Tampa Premium Outlets in Tampa, FL.”
Disney’s posting describes a full-time “bench” position responsible for inventory accuracy, product pricing, transfers, cycle counts, deliveries, and sales-floor stock levels. It also says the employee would work with Data Maintenance Cast Members at Walt Disney World, leaders, and the resort’s distribution center.
A second official listing, for a Merchandise Heart of House lead Cast Member, appeared August 9. It names the same location and covers opening, closing, securing the store, directing Cast Members, organizing the stockroom, and replenishing the sales floor.
Those aren’t generic Tampa retail jobs. Together, the postings outline inventory control and day-to-day store leadership at a specifically named Disney outlet.

What Disney Has Not Announced for Tampa Premium Outlets
Disney hasn’t published an opening date, exact suite number, operating schedule, floor area, or grand-opening plan. The job listings also don’t provide shoppers with a street address for the location.
That distinction matters. A hiring listing can confirm Disney’s operational intent without telling guests when a location will be ready to receive them. Construction, inspections, merchandise delivery, staffing, and training can all sit between recruitment and opening day.
So guests shouldn’t drive to the mall expecting to shop yet. Until Disney or the shopping center posts customer information, the Disney Character Warehouse remains confirmed but not publicly scheduled.

Why the Walt Disney World Hiring Details Matter
The inventory position offers the clearest insider read. Disney expects the Tampa store to use its internal inventory systems, receive transfers, maintain pricing, and coordinate with the Walt Disney World distribution network. That points to a sustained merchandise operation rather than a short pop-up or licensed third-party shop.
It also puts the store inside the Walt Disney World Resort business structure, according to both listings. For Tampa Bay shoppers, that connection is more meaningful than a mall storefront carrying Disney-branded products.
The model is already familiar in Central Florida. Disney Character Warehouse locations have sold discounted resort and Disney merchandise at Orlando outlet centers, including the Vineland Avenue store referenced in Inside the Magic’s Character Warehouse discount coverage.

Tampa Store Expands Disney’s Outlet Reach
Opening near Tampa would move this format beyond the immediate Orlando tourist corridor. It would also give west-central Florida residents an official option that doesn’t require continuing east toward Walt Disney World merely to browse outlet inventory.
That’s a practical expansion, not a new resort outpost. Disney’s parks, hotels, Disney Springs, and ticketed experiences remain in Central Florida; the Tampa location is retail. Still, placing Cast Member-operated merchandise sales in another major Florida market extends Disney’s physical reach in a way an online storefront can’t replicate.
Inside the Magic has documented the bargain-hunt appeal, including deep discounts on premium Disney merchandise and the outlet system’s stricter all-sales-final policy. Inventory can vary, and a product found one day may disappear quickly.
That unpredictability is part of the draw. It also means the Tampa store shouldn’t be treated as a guaranteed source for a particular Spirit Jersey, Loungefly bag, pin, or retired festival item.

What Tampa Bay Shoppers Should Watch Next
The next meaningful signal will be a public store page, mall directory entry, exterior signage, or Disney announcement that supplies an opening date and hours. Disney could also post front-of-house sales positions as staffing progresses, though the company hasn’t said which roles remain to be filled.
Shoppers should also wait for Disney to clarify purchase limits, returns, discounts, and Annual Passholder benefits. Past Character Warehouse promotions have included special Annual Passholder savings, but that doesn’t establish what Tampa will offer.
The broader outlet footprint has shifted before. Inside the Magic reported on the Sawgrass Mills Character Warehouse closure, while the Orlando stores continued serving the resort market. A Tampa opening would create a new western Florida access point after that South Florida contraction.
For now, the evidence stops at Disney’s own recruitment pages. The Disney Character Warehouse is coming to Tampa Premium Outlets, but its exact debut, location within the center, hours, and opening inventory remain unannounced. Those are the details shoppers need before turning a promising job listing into a shopping plan.
