One Disney nighttime spectacular is set to end forever in a few days.
Nighttime entertainment has long been one of the biggest draws at Disney parks. Fireworks, castle projections, fountains, and illuminated parades are often positioned as the final major event of the day, giving guests one last reason to stay in the parks after dark.
At Walt Disney World, Cinderella Castle anchors Happily Ever After at Magic Kingdom. Elsewhere, Disney resorts use everything from projection mapping and lasers to fountains and drones to transform their icons once the sun goes down.
Not every nighttime spectacular is built the same way, either. Some rely heavily on fireworks. Others use projections, lighting, and smaller pyrotechnic effects to tell a more structured story across a castle or another park landmark.
One of Disney’s newest entries in that category is now reaching the end of the road.
Final Days for Reach for the Stars
Tokyo Disneyland will permanently end Reach for the Stars after September 14, 2026. The resort’s official September schedule lists the Cinderella Castle spectacular at 7:15 p.m. through its final night.
Reach for the Stars debuted on September 20, 2024, meaning it will close just short of its second anniversary. The roughly 20-minute production uses projection mapping, lighting, pyrotechnics, and other effects across Cinderella Castle.
Its story follows Disney characters pursuing their dreams and features Tinker Bell, Hercules, Dumbo, Mary Poppins, Carl Fredricksen, Aladdin and Jasmine, WALL-E, EVE, Baymax, and more.
The show was also notable for bringing Marvel characters into a Tokyo Disney Resort entertainment production for the first time. Iron Man and Captain Marvel appear alongside Disney and Pixar characters during the castle spectacular.
Disney has given Reach for the Stars an expanded farewell this summer. Since July 2, the show has run as Reach for the Stars: Everlasting Dreams, extending the regular performance from roughly 20 minutes to about 25 minutes.
The limited version adds a roughly five-minute epilogue after the main show, with characters projected across Cinderella Castle to exclusive music. Disney also added a drone display, marking the first time drones have been incorporated into a Tokyo Disneyland castle show.
Its new song, “Forever Dreams,” was released digitally in July. The drones have formed imagery inspired by Winnie the Pooh, Dumbo, Tangled, and Toy Story above the castle during the special finale.
Reaction to Reach for the Stars has been mixed during its run. Some fans have praised its music, lasers, fire effects, and ambitious visuals, while others have argued that it lacks the emotional pull of previous Tokyo Disneyland castle productions.
Either way, its run has been relatively brief, lasting just under two years.
Tokyo Disneyland’s Nighttime Lineup Is Changing Again
Reach for the Stars previously shared Tokyo Disneyland’s nighttime schedule with Sky Full of Colors, a separate five-minute fireworks presentation set to familiar Disney music. Past schedules placed both shows on the same evening alongside the Electrical Parade Dreamlights.
Sky Full of Colors is a park-wide fireworks show at both Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea, while Reach for the Stars is centered directly on Cinderella Castle and relies far more heavily on projections, lighting, and staged visual effects.
Sky Full of Colors went on hiatus for the summer, beginning June 15. Its official closure schedule now continues through October 31, meaning the regular fireworks show will not return for the upcoming Halloween season.
Instead, Night High Halloween will begin next week and run through October 31 at both Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea. The five-minute program lights up the sky with fireworks set to Halloween music.
Tokyo Disneyland currently lists Night High Halloween for 8:50 p.m. performances from next week, following the Electrical Parade Dreamlights at 7:35 p.m. The seasonal show will therefore bring fireworks back to the park shortly after Reach for the Stars disappears.
It will not, however, replace Reach for the Stars in format. Night High Halloween is a short, park-wide fireworks presentation rather than a full Cinderella Castle projection spectacular.
