If you’ve ever stepped foot inside Disney's Wilderness Lodge, you know why so many Disney fans consider it a favorite. It’s warm, rustic, and feels like stepping into a storybook forest. But if you’re planning a stay there soon, you may want to double-check your expectations.
According to reports from WDWNT, Disney has officially confirmed a major closure at the resort as part of a massive exterior refurbishment project. And while the hotel remains open, this construction is anything but subtle.

A Major Section Closed
The terrace area near the lobby—a popular space for guests to unwind and soak up the atmosphere—has been fully closed off. Scaffolding now stretches across large portions of the building, and major guest walkways have been blocked, with alternate routes in place. It’s one of the most visible construction efforts currently underway at a deluxe resort.
This closure comes after Disney first posted a refurbishment advisory back in August 2024. With no official completion date on the calendar, it’s clear this isn’t a quick fix.
What Guests Should Expect
The good news is that all of the resort’s amenities remain open. Restaurants like Roaring Fork and Artist Point are operating normally, and transportation to Magic Kingdom hasn’t been impacted.
However, guests can expect to encounter construction equipment, closed-off paths, and daytime work noise. Many of the peaceful spaces that make Wilderness Lodge feel so serene are temporarily out of reach.
Part of Disney’s Wider Refurbishment Push
This project is just one piece of a larger puzzle. Disney has been steadily working to refresh its deluxe resorts over the past few years. From updated exteriors to modernized interiors, these changes are designed to keep the resorts up to the standard fans expect.
But for those arriving in the middle of construction, the timing isn’t exactly ideal.

A Beautiful Future Ahead
Once the work is done, the upgrades should breathe new life into the resort while preserving the wilderness lodge aesthetic that fans adore. Until then, it’s worth knowing that your experience may look a little different than the brochures.
Wilderness Lodge has always been a fan favorite—and once the scaffolding comes down, it’ll likely shine even brighter. But for now, the magic comes with a construction sign or two.
