When Disney+ first launched nearly six years ago, it quickly became the ultimate streaming service for Disney fans. With the ability to stream iconic Disney films, classic Disney Channel shows, and a variety of exciting Disney+ original content, it wasn’t hard to see why the service was a massive hit.
Fast-forward to today, and Disney+ boasts nearly 160 million subscribers, making it one of the most significant players in the streaming world.

However, even with its undeniable success, Disney+ has faced its share of challenges. From technical issues to subscriber frustrations, it’s clear that the streaming service has some work to do.
Recently, a troubling issue has caused many Disney+ subscribers to threaten canceling their subscriptions, all over what they are calling a “ridiculous” problem that just won’t go away.
The issue in question revolves around the “I’m Away” feature, which allows users to access the service while traveling. This feature was meant to be a convenient option for those on the go, letting them continue enjoying their favorite Disney+ content while away from home.

However, some users have encountered a major roadblock—once they use the “I’m Away” option too many times, they are locked out of their Disney+ account entirely.
This problem was highlighted by Reddit user ValuableSwimmer4940, who posted a screenshot showing the message that she had used up all her “I’m Away” options.
This message effectively prevented her from watching any content on the platform, and the frustrated user took to Reddit to share her disbelief. In her post, she wrote, “Since when is this a thing? Wack as hell 🤦🏻♂️,” a sentiment that resonated with many other Disney+ users.

Her post quickly garnered over 1,500 upvotes, along with countless comments from other subscribers facing similar issues.
But it’s not just this one Reddit user who’s experiencing problems. Many Disney+ subscribers have shared their own frustrations with the service. Some users reported seeing the “I’m Away” message even when they were at home, leading to confusion and more headaches.
One commenter mentioned that after moving to a new home, they were still unable to use the service, as Disney+ wouldn’t accept their updated household information.

The issue is more than just an inconvenience for these subscribers. For many, it’s part of a larger pattern of frustration that’s led some to question their continued loyalty to Disney+.
One Redditor shared their experience:
“I moved house 4 months ago and 2-3 times a week I get these messages. I keep clicking ‘update household,’ and when that stops working, I use the ‘I’m Away.’ But when that stops working, I have to contact Disney+ support, and they fix the problem—only for it to happen again. It feels like I’m stuck in a loop.”
For these frustrated users, the ultimate solution seems to be canceling their subscriptions. Many have openly admitted that they’re ready to cut ties with Disney+ if these technical issues persist.

One commenter even pointed out the irony that Disney, a company built on creating family-friendly content, would make it so difficult for families to access that content. After all, families are some of Disney+’s most loyal customers.
It’s clear that Disney+ has some serious issues to work through, both in terms of user experience and customer satisfaction. While the platform did manage to turn a profit in the third quarter of 2024 under CEO Bob Iger’s leadership, that success was hard-earned, with layoffs, budget cuts, and series cancellations along the way.
Even so, the company still has a lot of ground to cover when it comes to keeping its subscribers happy.

Disney+ saw a significant loss of 700,000 subscribers in the last quarter of 2024, primarily due to expiring promotions and price hikes. This latest technical issue is just another hurdle for Disney to overcome if they want to retain their massive subscriber base.
As Disney+ subscribers continue to express their dissatisfaction, it remains to be seen whether the company will be able to resolve these ongoing problems. For now, users are left to wonder if they can continue to trust the service, or if they’ll be forced to say goodbye to the platform they once loved.
