Guests hoping to relax with a tropical cocktail at Trader Sam's Tiki Terrace during an upcoming Walt Disney World vacation may need to keep waiting, as Disney has removed the only reopening timeframe that recently appeared for the popular outdoor venue.

The terrace at Disney's Polynesian Village Resort has remained closed since April while construction crews continue renovating the resort's Grand Ceremonial House. Although the refurbishment was originally expected to conclude in late June, the latest information suggests Disney is still not ready to commit to a reopening date.
Since debuting with Magic Kingdom in 1971, Disney's Polynesian Village Resort has established itself as one of Walt Disney World's signature Deluxe Resort hotels. Overlooking Seven Seas Lagoon, the tropical destination is known for its island-inspired atmosphere and dining lineup, including ‘Ohana, Kona Café, Capt. Cook's, and Trader Sam's Grog Grotto.
The ongoing refurbishment has affected multiple areas of the resort over the past several months. Construction has brought updates to the Grand Ceremonial House exterior, changes to transportation routes, and temporary barriers around portions of the main lobby, though the resort has remained open to guests throughout the project.
One location that has yet to return is Trader Sam's Tiki Terrace.

Unlike the enclosed Trader Sam's Grog Grotto, the terrace provides outdoor seating with the same food and drink offerings in a more relaxed setting. Guests often choose the space to enjoy live entertainment, lagoon views, and an opportunity to watch Magic Kingdom's evening fireworks while sampling the lounge's well-known specialty cocktails. Its larger outdoor seating area has also traditionally made it easier for visitors to experience Trader Sam's without waiting for an indoor table.
Disney's original refurbishment schedule listed the terrace as reopening by the end of June, but that target passed without any official announcement.
Reports from Kenny the Pirate later indicated Disney had quietly updated its refurbishment calendar, extending the closure through late October 2026 as work on the Grand Ceremonial House continued. For a brief period, it appeared guests finally had a revised reopening window. That information has since disappeared.
Disney has removed the October date from its official website, replacing it with a simpler notice that reads: “Trader Sam's Tiki Terrace is currently closed for refurbishment… Please check back here for updates.” The revised wording leaves the outdoor lounge without a confirmed return date, making it possible that guests traveling during the remainder of the summer and into the fall could still find the space unavailable.

Meanwhile, Trader Sam's Grog Grotto continues normal operations. The interactive lounge remains one of Walt Disney World's most sought-after dining experiences thanks to its themed effects, signature beverages, and collectible mugs. Demand continues to be exceptionally high, with the venue frequently reaching capacity soon after opening and wait times often climbing beyond an hour.
As refurbishment continues at Disney's Polynesian Village Resort, Trader Sam's Tiki Terrace remains one of several guest offerings affected by the ongoing project, with Disney yet to announce when the outdoor lounge will officially reopen.
