Disney Guests Denied Access: Popular ‘Finding Nemo’ Experience Quietly Closed for Good

Disney guests are speaking out after a popular experience reportedly remained closed for months, with new details suggesting it might never reopen.

What initially appeared to be a temporary closure has raised bigger questions as visitors continue reporting restricted access and signs of physical removal.

Some guests claim Disney has already started dismantling portions of the attraction, while another says an employee revealed that the closure would be permanent.

The company has not publicly confirmed those reports or explained what prompted the decision.

For families who expected to enjoy the experience during future vacations, the possibility of losing it without an official announcement has become a frustrating development.

Months of Restricted Access Spark Concerns

The experience involves the Mr. Ray-themed slide at Nemo's Reef, a children's water playground aboard the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy cruise ships.

Based on Pixar's Finding Nemo (2003), the playground features colorful coral, familiar underwater characters, and water activities designed for children four years old and younger.

However, the Mr. Ray slide has reportedly remained inaccessible since April or May 2026.

Passengers aboard both vessels have shared their experiences on Facebook and Reddit, describing barriers that prevent children from using the feature.

While Disney attractions occasionally close for repairs or maintenance, guests have reportedly encountered the same restrictions across several months.

One Reddit user claimed that a crew member explained the slide was not undergoing repairs. Instead, the employee allegedly said Disney planned to remove it.

Disney has not independently confirmed that statement, but it has left passengers questioning whether the slide has reached the end of its operating life.

Guests Notice More Than Just Barriers

Reports from the Disney Dream suggest the attraction's condition has changed beyond simply being closed.

According to passenger accounts, Disney has already removed the extended lower section of the Mr. Ray slide.

Other pieces of the attraction reportedly remain, including the recognizable Mr. Ray figure, surrounding coral decorations, and staircase.

However, those remaining elements are inaccessible to guests.

Passengers aboard the Disney Fantasy have also reported that the slide remains closed, although there is no confirmation that Disney has begun removing portions of it.

Neither vessel has a publicly announced upcoming dry dock that would provide an obvious opportunity for major reconstruction.

Disney's official Nemo's Reef webpage also does not specifically identify the Mr. Ray slide.

Still, the company's omission of the feature from its website does not establish that permanent removal is underway.

Disney has not announced a replacement, provided a reopening date, or publicly confirmed the slide's retirement.

A Previous Accident Adds Another Layer of Concern

Questions about the slide's future have also brought attention to an injury that occurred inside Nemo's Reef.

In late 2025, a young child suffered a broken femur while playing in the splash playground aboard the Disney Dream.

His mother, Courtney Livingston, later shared details of the incident and explained that Disney provided her family with another cruise.

When Livingston returned in March 2026, she discovered that Disney had made changes to the playground.

The coral structure involved in her son's fall had been removed, and portions of the flooring had been replaced.

Importantly, her son was not injured while using the Mr. Ray slide.

The slide also remained operational during the family's March visit.

There is no confirmed evidence that the earlier accident influenced Disney's reported decision to close the slide.

Maintenance issues, safety considerations, or possible redesign plans remain potential explanations, but Disney has not identified the reason.

Disney Fans Have Faced Permanent Goodbyes Before

Disney has retired numerous attractions over the years, although major closures typically come with public announcements.

Splash Mountain closed at Magic Kingdom in January 2023 before Tiana's Bayou Adventure opened in June 2024.

EPCOT's Maelstrom closed in 2014 and was later replaced by Frozen Ever After.

At Disney's Hollywood Studios, The Great Movie Ride closed in 2017 before Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway took its place.

Those announcements allowed visitors to plan final experiences before the original attractions disappeared.

The reported closure of the Mr. Ray slide has followed a different pattern.

Instead of receiving a publicly announced final operating date, families reportedly discovered the attraction blocked off during their vacations.

Will Disney Finally Explain What Happened?

Nemo's Reef continues to operate as advertised as a children's playground aboard both ships and reports concern only about the Mr. Ray slide.

Although passenger accounts point toward permanent removal, Disney has not officially confirmed that the attraction will never return.

Until the company addresses the situation, families have no clear answer about its future.

If the slide is permanently retired, guests may have already enjoyed their final opportunity to experience it without realizing they were saying goodbye.
