Frozen is one of the biggest animated franchises that Walt Disney Animation Studios has ever produced. It kicked off with a self-titled movie in 2013, starring Idina Menzel, Kristen Bell, Jonathan Groff, Josh Gad, and Santino Fontana, which quickly became a multimedia empire rivaled by few in the world. Since the series already encompasses upcoming sequel films, multiple short movies, a podcast, a smash hit stage musical, literally dozens of board games, multiple video games, and literally billions of YouTube plays of “Let It Go,” what’s next but a live-action remake?

Disney has been putting a lot of money into producing live-action remakes of its classic films, like Beauty and the Beast (2017) starring Emma Watson, The Lion King (2019) starring the voices of Donald Glover and Beyonce, and Aladdin (2019), starring Will Smith. These movies tend to gross huge amounts of money and then get quickly forgotten by pop culture as a whole. However, when it comes to Disney’s bottom line, it’s really only the first part that matters.

Although Disney has not officially announced it is making a live-action Frozen, it seems only a matter of time. While Idina Menzel and Kristen Bell might be up for portraying their characters in live-action, A-list movie star Anya Taylor-Joy has thrown her hat in the ring to play Elsa.

In a recent interview with Vogue Hong Kong, the Mad Max Saga actress revealed that she was a huge Disney fan and had wanted to perform in a musical film for years. The interviewer asked, “You have said you are a huge Disney fan, with one of your earliest auditions being for a role in Maleficent (2014). What is your dream Disney role?”

Anya Taylor-Joy said:

“Oh! I would love to do a musical because I’m a bit addicted to hard work. I like having an impossible mountain to climb. The idea of having to be able to sing, dance, and act at the same time would just really thrill me.”

“I think Frozen would be pretty great. It would be very fun to shoot ice out of your hand. Also, you’d just be the favourite at every kid’s birthday party. All of my siblings have children now, so I would love for them to be able to say ‘my auntie is Elsa.’ That would be pretty sick.”

Disney has made it clear that it will be producing sequels and remakes for the foreseeable future, especially if it keeps making bank like Inside Out 2. At least when the company starts casting Frozen, the live-action version, they will know who wants to be Elsa.
