If you're planning a trip to Magic Kingdom in the coming weeks, getting there may feel a little different than it did the last time you visited.
Beginning August 10, Walt Disney World will introduce another major traffic shift around Magic Kingdom as construction continues on the World Drive North improvement project. The updated traffic pattern will send drivers onto a newly completed section of Floridian Way, marking the latest phase in a long-running effort to improve traffic flow around the park and its nearby resorts.
While the change is temporary, guests driving to Magic Kingdom should be prepared for a new route and ongoing construction throughout the area.
A New Route Around Magic Kingdom
Starting August 10, drivers traveling between the Magic Kingdom parking lot and Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa will be directed onto a newly constructed portion of Floridian Way. Rather than using the previous roadway configuration, vehicles will temporarily travel on the finished southbound lanes while crews begin building the permanent northbound side of the road.
Fresh lane markings and new directional signs have already been installed, giving guests an early look at the revised traffic pattern before it officially opens.
The roadway adjustment is designed to keep traffic moving while construction continues nearby, but guests who haven't visited recently may notice that familiar turns and intersections have changed.
More Changes Are Still on the Way
The roadway shift is only one piece of a much larger transportation project surrounding Magic Kingdom.
Disney has already completed two of the three roundabouts planned for the area. Once traffic has been moved onto the new section of Floridian Way, construction crews will begin building the final roundabout closer to the Magic Kingdom parking lot.
Temporary connector roads have also been added to maintain access to Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, the Wedding Pavilion, and Island Tower at Disney's Polynesian Village Resort while permanent roadways are completed.
Guests staying at those resorts should continue watching for updated signage throughout the construction period.
Drivers have already experienced one significant change after Disney permanently closed the intersection connecting Seven Seas Drive and Floridian Way. Access to Disney's Polynesian Village Resort now requires a different approach using World Drive North.
The larger roadway project is expected to continue through late 2027.
Construction Is Everywhere at Magic Kingdom
The roadwork outside Magic Kingdom reflects what's happening inside the park as well.
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad returned to guests earlier this year after its lengthy refurbishment, but Frontierland is only beginning its next chapter. Construction is now underway on Piston Peak National Park, the massive new expansion replacing the former Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island. Beyond that, Disney Villains Land remains one of Walt Disney World's biggest future projects and will continue transforming the area over the next several years.
Tomorrowland has also been especially busy. Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin recently reopened following an extensive overhaul that introduced new ride vehicles, updated gameplay, and refreshed scenes.
Just steps away, Walt Disney's Carousel of Progress has now closed for an extended refurbishment, leaving another classic attraction behind construction walls. Looking ahead, rumors continue to circulate that Space Mountain could eventually become Tomorrowland's next major refurbishment project, although Disney has not announced any official plans.
Outside the park, work continues at the Grand Floridian Resort, while Lakeshore Lodge steadily rises along Bay Lake ahead of its expected summer 2027 opening.
For Disney fans, construction has become a familiar sight across Walt Disney World, and beginning August 10, that includes the drive to Magic Kingdom itself.
