Disney’s new live-action adaptation of Peter Pan (1953), called Peter Pan & Wendy, has been receiving mixed reviews so far — partly because Disney fans seem to be more and more frustrated, on a larger scale, by Disney’s infatuation with live-action remakes of the company’s classic animated films.
Peter Pan & Wendy had already raised some eyebrows before its very recent Disney+ premiere due to the casting of highly-respected actress Yara Shahidi in the role of Tinker Bell, and the movie made history by casting this young actor in a lead role as well.
Now, the newly-released film has rankled more conservative or old-fashioned fans in another way. “Lost Girls” have been added to Peter Pan’s group of “Lost Boys” in the Disney movie.
The film’s director, David Lowery, said in a recent interview that “being a Lost Boy is a state of mind” — so the gender of the Lost Boys shouldn’t matter. Still, this change has once again caused Disney to face some more accusations of being took “woke.”

One Twitter user declared that the changes to this new version of the Peter Pan story have “completely changed the meaning of the story” and that “Disney is just obsessed with showing its audience with woke garbage.”
Another Disney movie viewer claimed that the new movie’s inclusivity efforts resulted in “forced dialogue” that felt unnatural in the film.

The original Peter Pan film was not devoid of controversies either, with many audience members looking back and pointing out racist and offensive scenes or characterizations from the Disney movie (Tiger Lily, anyone?).
Disney’s “woke” auditors have been poring over previous Disney films in the past year, and the original Peter Pan certainly didn’t actually make the cut!
Tinker Bell herself was actually censored by Disney’s team, due to being too “jealous” and “body-conscious.”
Are you going to watch this new version of Peter Pan, Lost Girls included?
