Disney Park Lifts Long-Hated Dress Code Rule

If you’ve ever dreamed of dressing up as your favorite Disney villain or hero and walking through the gates of Disneyland Paris in full costume, you’ll finally get your chance — but only for one night, and only under a detailed list of conditions.

For October 31, 2025, Disneyland Paris will temporarily lift its ban on guest costumes, allowing visitors to wear Halloween-themed outfits inside the parks. The announcement, originally reported by DLP Report, marks a rare exception to the resort’s year-round rule that typically prohibits adult costumes during regular operating hours.

The move puts Disneyland Paris more in line — albeit briefly — with other Disney resorts that host costumed Halloween events. But unlike the U.S.-based “Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party” or “Oogie Boogie Bash,” the French resort does not offer a separate ticketed Halloween event with widespread costuming. That makes this year's one-night costume policy a unique opportunity for fans to celebrate in style.

However, Disneyland Paris has also made it clear: there are boundaries, and they will be enforced.

DLP Report shared the news on X, “uests will be allowed to wear costumes on October 31, fo Halloween Night within the guidelines below:”

While guests are encouraged to get festive, Disneyland Paris has released a list of strict guidelines to ensure costumes don’t interfere with guest safety, security, or the family-friendly environment the park is known for.

Here’s a breakdown of what’s allowed — and what’s not — for Halloween night:

Costumes Allowed — With Thematic Limitations

Guests can wear Halloween-themed costumes on October 31 only. This is an exceptional allowance — every other day of the year, adult costuming is strictly prohibited. That means it’s your one and only chance in 2025 to don that elaborate Maleficent cloak or Peter Pan ensemble.

No Full-Face Masks or Concealed Identities

The resort reserves the right to prohibit costumes that cover a guest’s entire face or head. This includes full helmets, masks, and any kind of face paint or covering that makes it difficult to identify the wearer.

The restriction is particularly relevant for guests 12 years and older, who are not allowed to wear any kind of mask (except medical or sanitary ones). Children under 12 may wear costume masks — but even then, discretion is advised.

Inappropriate or Scary Costumes May Be Turned Away

If your costume includes shocking imagery, realistic gore, or anything deemed inappropriate for children, it may be prohibited. The park emphasizes that costumes should be appropriate for a family environment, meaning no horror-movie-level blood, excessive makeup effects, or provocative designs.

Make sure your costume reflects the light-hearted, whimsical tone of Disney’s Halloween season, not something out of a haunted house attraction.

Watch Those Accessories

Certain accessories and props are also on the restricted list. Items that could pose a risk to others or interfere with ride safety are not allowed. This includes:

  • Long, trailing capes or skirts

  • Walking sticks, staffs, or broomsticks

  • Any toy resembling a weapon (including swords, guns, or laser blasters — even fake ones)

Props that might seem harmless can pose a tripping or safety hazard on attractions and in crowds. If you’re planning to bring accessories, keep them small, soft, and easy to stow.

Security Screenings May Be Required

Guests wearing multi-layered or full-body costumes should expect additional security screening, including visual inspections and scanning. This is especially true for costumes that obscure body shape or could conceal items.

All guests may be subject to bag checks and clothing inspections at park entrances or inside the parks — a standard protocol that may be intensified during special events like Halloween.

Certain Items Are Always Prohibited

In addition to costume-specific rules, the park reiterated its regular banned items list, which includes:

  • Any object or toy resembling a firearm (water guns, laser guns, etc.)

  • Masks for guests aged 12 and over (excluding medical reasons)

  • Clothing or costume pieces that trail on the ground

These items are not permitted at any time, even on Halloween.

One important rule that many guests might overlook: If you dress as a Disney character, you may not pose for photos with other guests or sign autographs. This is to prevent confusion with official Disney cast members and ensure the integrity of character meet-and-greets.

So yes, you can show up as Belle or Captain Jack Sparrow — just don’t start acting like them. Disneyland Paris wants to keep a clear line between official entertainment and guest participation.

A Small Shift in Policy With Big Fan Impact

While it’s a temporary measure, the decision to allow costumes — even with restrictions — is a big deal for Disneyland Paris regulars. For years, costume policies at the park have been more rigid than at its American counterparts, largely due to security regulations and cultural norms.

This one-night opportunity brings a small taste of the immersive, costumed events that have become beloved traditions at Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resort in California. It also allows fans in Europe to participate in Halloween in a way that feels distinctly “Disney.”

For many guests, it’s not just about dressing up — it’s about feeling like a part of the show.

Planning Tips for Halloween Costume Night at Disneyland Paris

If you're attending on October 31 and planning to wear a costume, here are a few key takeaways:

  • Choose a costume that’s fun but functional — avoid long or bulky materials.

  • Skip the props — if it could be mistaken for a weapon or create a tripping hazard, leave it at home.

  • Use makeup sparingly — keep it family-friendly and avoid excessive gore.

  • Expect security checks — give yourself extra time to get through screening.

  • Don’t pose or sign as a Disney character — enjoy your look without playing the part.

Halloween night at Disneyland Paris 2025 promises to be something truly special — a rare chance to bring your favorite character to life inside one of the most iconic theme parks in the world.

Just remember: the costume rules are as much a part of the experience as the costume itself. Stay within the guidelines, and you’ll be free to enjoy a festive, safe, and unforgettable evening under the spooky lights of Sleeping Beauty Castle.
