Disney Shutting Down Prized Theme Park in Under 70 Days

Annual Passholders at Disneyland Paris finally have the dates they've been waiting for. The resort confirmed this week that exclusive preview access to World of Frozen and the newly branded Disney Adventure World will take place across five specific days in March 2026, giving the park's most loyal guests first access to what executives are calling the most significant expansion in European Disney history.

The announcement resolves months of speculation about when Passholders would get their promised early look at the Kingdom of Arendelle, the reimagined park entrance, and the technological marvels that include next-generation robotic characters and a groundbreaking nighttime spectacular featuring hundreds of drones. These preview opportunities come just weeks before March 29, 2026, when Walt Disney Studios Park officially closes its doors forever and reopens the same day as Disney Adventure World, completing a transformation that has reshaped more than 90 percent of the park's original offerings since its 2002 debut.

Disneyland Paris initially promised Passholder previews when the World of Frozen opening date was announced in November 2024, but the specific calendar remained unconfirmed until this week's official statement. The dates now locked in are March 15, 18, 23, 24, and 25, with the earliest date exclusively reserved for Gold Pass members. The remaining four dates open to all Annual Pass tiers, creating a two-week window for dedicated fans to experience the expansion ahead of general admission guests who arrive starting March 29.

DLP Report (@DLPReport) shared, “⚠️ Breaking: Disneyland Pass previews have been officially announced for the opening of Disney Adventure World:
– March 15: Disneyland Pass Gold Only
– March 18, 23, 24 and 25: All Passes”

The tiered approach to preview access follows established patterns from other major Disney park openings worldwide. Gold Pass holders, representing the premium tier of Disneyland Paris Annual Passes, receive exclusive access on March 15. This single-day head start acknowledges the higher investment these Passholders make while generating anticipation among other pass levels waiting for their turn on subsequent dates.

All remaining Passholder categories gain access on March 18, 23, 24, and 25. The spacing across multiple days helps manage capacity while giving Disney operations teams opportunities to observe guest flow patterns, identify operational bottlenecks, and make real-time adjustments before the official opening. These controlled preview environments serve dual purposes: rewarding loyal guests while functioning as large-scale operational tests under realistic conditions.

Cast Member previews happen even earlier, running from February 28 through March 12. These Test & Learn sessions give employees nearly two weeks of hands-on experience with new attractions, restaurants, shops, and guest services before Passholders arrive. By the time March 15 rolls around, Cast Members will have already processed thousands of guest interactions, troubleshot technical issues, and refined operational procedures that might not surface during smaller-scale testing phases.

The End of Walt Disney Studios Park

March 29 marks a definitive turning point in Disneyland Paris history. Walt Disney Studios Park, which welcomed its first guests in 2002 as a celebration of film production and behind-the-scenes movie magic, will officially cease operations under that name. The park struggled throughout much of its existence to find clear identity and purpose, with original attractions focused on production processes that never fully captured European audiences the way immersive storytelling experiences did at the adjacent Disneyland Park.

Disney Adventure World represents a complete philosophical repositioning. Rather than explaining how movies are made, the new park immerses guests directly into the worlds of Disney Animation, Pixar Animation Studios, and Marvel Studios films. This shift aligns with guest preferences demonstrated consistently across Disney parks worldwide: visitors want to step inside stories, not watch explanations of how stories are created.

The transformation affects virtually the entire park. New entrance areas, reimagined pathways, an enormous central lake, and multiple themed lands create an experience that bears little resemblance to the original 2002 design. President Natacha Rafalski described the March 29 reopening as pursuing “the most ambitious transformation in our resort's history, pushing the boundaries of storytelling and inviting guests to live their own adventures.”

Inside World of Frozen

World of Frozen dominates the expansion both physically and narratively. The land recreates the Kingdom of Arendelle at life-size scale, with North Mountain rising 118 feet and crowned by Elsa's shimmering Ice Palace. The village below features Nordic-inspired architecture decorated with rosemaling, traditional Norwegian decorative painting that adorns building facades and moldings with intricate floral patterns. Landscaping incorporates Scandinavian vegetation including conifers, birches, beeches, and crocuses that recreate the atmospheric settings from the animated films.

The narrative framework positions guests as participants in the Snowflower Festival, a celebration created specifically for Disneyland Paris that brings the entire village to life with special decorations and festivities. This festival concept provides story context for the land's attractions, character encounters, and entertainment offerings while giving the environment a lived-in quality that suggests guests are visiting during a special moment in Arendelle's calendar.

Frozen Ever After serves as the signature attraction. The boat ride takes guests through multiple environments including snowy forests, the Valley of the Trolls, and Elsa's Ice Palace before culminating in Arendelle Bay with snowflake fireworks. The attraction features advanced Audio-Animatronics technology and immersive projection systems that Walt Disney Imagineering continues programming in the weeks leading up to opening. Beloved songs including “Do You Want to Build a Snowman?” and “Let It Go” underscore the journey while characters including Anna, Elsa, Olaf, Sven, and Kristoff appear throughout.

Character interactions extend beyond the attraction. Royal Encounter allows guests to meet Anna and Elsa inside Arendelle Castle after passing through the Portrait Gallery. The experience emphasizes personal interaction and photo opportunities designed to create lasting memories for families. Outside on Arendelle Bay, “A Celebration in Arendelle” presents a 15-minute show featuring the sisters and other characters aboard three Viking longships constructed by Couach Construction Navale, a French shipbuilder from Bordeaux. The show features new music composed exclusively for Disneyland Paris by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, adding original songs to the Frozen musical catalog specifically for this land.

The technological highlight comes with next-generation robotic characters, most notably a true-to-size Olaf capable of autonomous movement and interaction. Developed through collaboration between Walt Disney Imagineering Research & Development, Disney Live Entertainment, and Walt Disney Animation Studios, this robotic figure represents significant advancement in character technology. Unlike traditional Audio-Animatronics that follow programmed movements, these robotic characters can engage dynamically with guests and respond to their environment in ways that blur the line between animatronics and living performers.

Adventure Bay and Evening Spectacular

Adventure Bay functions as Disney Adventure World's geographic anchor. The 7.5-acre lake sits at the expansion's center, with World of Frozen, Worlds of Pixar, and Marvel Avengers Campus positioned around its shores. During daylight hours, the West Pavilion provides a relaxation space where guests can meet Mickey and Minnie in new Victorian-inspired costumes. Additional character experiences will expand shortly after opening, making the lakeside a hub for character interactions throughout the day.

Evening transforms Adventure Bay into something entirely different. “Disney Cascade of Lights” debuts as Disneyland Paris's second major nighttime spectacular, designed specifically for the new park configuration. The production incorporates technological elements never before combined in a Disney show: 379 aerial drones choreographed with newly developed aquatic drone systems that perform synchronized routines across both sky and water simultaneously.

The show's 360-degree staging allows viewing from multiple positions around the bay, with tiered areas providing sightlines from different perspectives. Water screens, choreographed fountains, large-scale projections, dynamic lighting, special effects, and pyrotechnics combine with the drone choreography to create a production that Disneyland Paris positions as pushing the boundaries of nighttime entertainment.

A 90-piece orchestra recorded the show's soundtrack, which features new arrangements of Disney music alongside an original anthem titled “We Can Be Heroes.” The production draws inspiration from stories including Mulan, Hercules, Moana, Zootopia, Up, and Marvel properties, inviting guests to embrace their own heroic journeys through the emotional arc of the show.

Adventure Way Attractions and Dining

Adventure Way connects World Premiere Plaza to the park's various themed lands while offering its own attractions and dining venues. The Raiponce Tangled Spin attraction recreates the Lantern Festival from Tangled, with guests seated in sculpted gondolas that whirl beneath illuminated lanterns while “I See the Light” and other songs from the film play. Mandy Moore recorded custom audio announcements for the attraction, adding authentic voice work to the experience.

Fourteen food and beverage locations line Adventure Way, representing significant expansion of dining capacity. The Regal View Restaurant & Lounge offers table service for breakfast, lunch, and dinner in elegant surroundings decorated with embroidered drapes, floral tapestries, and murals depicting Disney Princesses. Select Princesses including Belle, Merida, Jasmine, Aurora, Mulan, and Ariel appear during dining experiences, some wearing costumes never before seen at Disneyland Paris. Hand-crafted plates from Royal Delft, official supplier to the Dutch royal family, add authentic touches to table settings.

The Regal View Lounge marks Disneyland Paris history as the first bar located inside either theme park. The venue offers signature cocktails and drinks inspired by Disney Princess personalities, with live piano performances of Disney classics and views overlooking Adventure Bay and World of Frozen.

Additional dining options include La Terrasse Panoramique with bread bowls and New York rolls, Café Luminosity featuring a signature hot dog concept with four recipes, and multiple kiosks, chalets, and mobile carts offering creations ranging from filled brioche rolls to Disney Princess-inspired desserts.

Future Expansion Already Underway

Disney Adventure World's story extends beyond the March opening. Plans already confirmed include an Up-inspired flying carousel joining Adventure Way and, more significantly, construction has begun on the park's fourth major themed land dedicated to The Lion King. This new area will feature a major water-based attraction incorporating next-generation Audio-Animatronics that brings Simba's journey to life with music from the 1994 film.

The continued expansion reflects the €2 billion investment plan supporting Disneyland Paris's transformation. Resort leadership has consistently emphasized that this expansion represents ongoing evolution rather than a one-time project. The Walt Disney quote about Disneyland never being completed as long as imagination exists applies directly to Disney Adventure World's future development trajectory.

For Passholders who have watched construction progress over months and years, the confirmed preview dates provide concrete targets to plan around. Gold Pass members have March 15 circled on their calendars. Everyone else is looking at March 18, 23, 24, or 25. Whichever date you secure, you're getting access to the most substantial theme park expansion Europe has seen in decades, complete with technological innovations that haven't been deployed anywhere else in the world. Book your preview reservation as soon as they become available because these dates will reach capacity quickly, and missing out on experiencing Arendelle before the crowds arrive would be a mistake you'll regret all year.
