One of Disney’s oldest attraction concepts is about to disappear from another theme park.
Few Disney rides have undergone as many changes as Snow White. The original attraction debuted at Disneyland on opening day in 1955 as Snow White’s Adventures, putting guests inside a surprisingly dark interpretation of Walt Disney’s first animated feature.
Disneyland overhauled the Fantasyland attraction in 1983, renaming it Snow White’s Scary Adventures. Another significant refurbishment followed decades later, with new scenes, updated effects, and a softer ending introduced when the ride reopened in 2021 as Snow White’s Enchanted Wish.
Other versions have had very different fates. Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom operated Snow White’s Scary Adventures from 1971 until 2012, when Disney permanently removed the dark ride to make way for Princess Fairytale Hall.
Snow White remains represented elsewhere in Magic Kingdom’s Fantasyland through Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, the family roller coaster that opened in 2014 as part of the park’s major New Fantasyland expansion (and still attracts long lines to this day).
Internationally, however, several traditional Snow White dark rides remain in operation. Disneyland Paris has Blanche-Neige et les Sept Nains, while another version has continued operating with much of the darker atmosphere associated with Disney’s earlier interpretation of the story.
That version is now preparing to close.
Snow White’s Adventures Sets September Closure
Tokyo Disneyland’s Snow White’s Adventures will close to guests beginning September 4, according to the resort’s official attraction schedule.
The Fantasyland ride is currently expected to remain unavailable through September 22 before reopening on September 23, 2026. With the downtime lasting less than three weeks, the closure appears to be a relatively routine refurbishment rather than a major transformation.
Snow White’s Adventures opened alongside Tokyo Disneyland itself on April 15, 1983. Like the earliest Disneyland version, the roughly 2.5-minute dark ride places guests inside scenes inspired by Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
Guests board four-person mine cars before traveling through locations including the forest and the Seven Dwarfs’ world. The attraction also prominently features the Evil Queen in her witch disguise, including her attempt to tempt Snow White with the poisoned apple.
Unlike Disneyland’s modern Snow White’s Enchanted Wish, Tokyo Disneyland’s attraction has retained a noticeably darker tone, making it one of the closest remaining relatives of the Snow White rides Disney operated during earlier decades.
The September 4 closure will therefore temporarily remove one of the resort’s longest-running opening-day attractions.
Tokyo Disney Resort lists Snow White’s Adventures as reopening September 23, meaning guests visiting later that month should once again be able to experience the Fantasyland classic.
Several Disney Attractions Are Currently Offline
Snow White’s Adventures is not the only attraction affected by closures at Tokyo Disney Resort.
At Tokyo Disneyland, Dumbo the Flying Elephant has been unavailable since January and is currently scheduled to reopen in October. Beaver Brothers Explorer Canoes and Haunted Mansion are also among the attractions experiencing periods of downtime.
Swiss Family Treehouse has faced a much longer absence. The Adventureland walkthrough attraction has remained closed since 2022.
Several attractions are also unavailable next door at Tokyo DisneySea.
Indiana Jones Adventure: Temple of the Crystal Skull has now been closed for more than a year (but is set to reopen in November) while the DisneySea Transit Steamer Line’s Mediterranean Harbor operations are also currently unavailable.
Those closures come as Tokyo Disney Resort continues reshaping its attraction lineup following several major additions and removals in recent years.
Tokyo DisneySea opened Fantasy Springs in 2024, introducing attractions based on Frozen, Tangled, and Peter Pan. Tokyo Disneyland, meanwhile, has continued preparing for major future projects, including its upcoming Wreck-It Ralph attraction, replacing Buzz Lightyear’s Astro Blasters.
Aquatopia is also set to close forever at Tokyo DisneySea on September 14 as the park prepares for another as-yet-unannounced expansion.
Snow White’s Adventures represents a different side of the resort — an attraction dating back to Tokyo Disneyland’s earliest days rather than its latest expansion projects.
Although its September shutdown will be brief, it temporarily removes one of the few surviving Disney dark rides still closely connected to the company’s earliest Fantasyland traditions.
