Disney To-Do List: The Top 20 Things You Must Do Before You Go on Your Disney World Vacation

11. Choose a backpack for at least one member of your family.

At least one member of your family or traveling party should carry a backpack. I have a backpack that was purchased solely for trips to the parks, and it hibernates between trips to Disney. But it is my best friend in the parks. I don’t have to carry a purse or tote—everything I need is conveniently located in my Woody and Buzz backpack—on my back. Unless I can talk my husband into taking a turn at carrying it. You can buy a backpack at Disney World, but you’ll usually pay more for it, and you’ll have to bring things into the park in another bag before you buy your backpack at the parks. I pack that backpack at home, then put it in my suitcase so that I’m ready to hit the parks on day one. I don’t want to waste any precious park time sitting in my resort, trying to pack my park bag.

I am a writer and a Mom to four children and two baby shih-tzus. My first experience with the Magic was in 1988, when my parents surprised my brother and me with a visit to Walt Disney World after a short trip to see friends in Georgia. I still hum the tune played during the Main Street Electrical Parade and remember the feeling of excitement from my very first visit. I introduced my husband to the Magic several years ago, and we take our children to the parks every time we can. No matter how many times I visit Walt Disney World, it seems it’s not enough! The ever-changing experience only gets better with each trip, and I’m thrilled to share the Magic with others, as well as some of the tips and tricks to getting the most out of the Magic with each visit!
