Disney World fans who decided to sit out the last few years are about to have a very tempting reason to come back.
By 2027, several projects that guests have watched take shape will finally begin welcoming visitors. New areas will open, an old favorite will return in a dramatically different form, and another Disney resort will join the lineup.
It sounds like an ideal year for a comeback trip.
Look a little closer, though, and waiting another year starts to make more sense.
Disney's ambitious plans could create a vacation environment that regular visitors may prefer to avoid, especially if they're bringing the entire family.
Disney World Will Have Plenty of Reasons to Come Back
Disney has spent years preparing projects that will reshape multiple corners of its Florida resort.
Some of the biggest results arrive in 2027.
Disney's Animal Kingdom will introduce an entirely new land, while Disney's Hollywood Studios will start opening Monstropolis. Magic Kingdom will bring back an updated classic, and Disney's Lakeshore Lodge will begin welcoming overnight guests near Bay Lake.
Those projects alone could put Disney World back on the radar for families who haven't visited recently.
Then consider everything that will still feel fresh.
Rock ‘n' Roller Coaster Starring the Muppets, The Magic of Disney Animation, and the updated Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run will give returning guests additional experiences to discover.
Disney could announce even more attraction updates as its expansion plans move forward.
The result could be an enormous amount of interest concentrated into a single year.
Several Major Openings Are Coming Together
Disney already has four significant projects lined up for 2027:
- Monstropolis: Disney's Hollywood Studios will start opening the land in phases. Guests will gain access to dining, shopping, and entertainment experiences while Disney continues building the door coaster.
- Walt Disney's Carousel of Progress: The Magic Kingdom attraction returns in late spring 2027 with different time periods and a new opening scene featuring a Walt Disney animatronic.
- Disney's Lakeshore Lodge: Disney's newest Bay Lake resort officially welcomes its first guests on July 1, 2027.
- Pueblo Esperanza: This community will sit at the center of Tropical Americas, bringing an entirely new land to Disney's Animal Kingdom.
Having major additions spread across multiple parks means guests won't necessarily have one obvious place to find the excitement.
They may find crowds chasing it everywhere.
Experiencing Everything Could Become the Challenge
A family visiting Disney World in 2027 could have a long list of priorities before the vacation even begins.
Animal Kingdom guests may want Tropical Americas at the top of their itinerary. Over at Hollywood Studios, Monstropolis could become another must-do. Magic Kingdom will have its own returning attraction drawing curious longtime fans.
When many guests chase the same new experiences, vacation planning can become more complicated.
Waits could grow longer. Popular dining reservations may become harder to secure. Lightning Lane selections could face higher demand, and simply moving around crowded parks may take longer.
That can become particularly exhausting for families traveling with younger children.
Disney may also need time to adjust operations around new experiences once actual guests begin arriving.
Unfortunately, visitors could be paying more for that potentially hectic vacation.
The Cost of 2027 Is Already Coming Into Focus
Disney has opened vacation bookings and ticket pricing through October 31, 2027.
The numbers show how expensive a peak day at Disney World can become.
Magic Kingdom reaches $219 for a one-day ticket on the highest-priced dates. EPCOT reaches $214, Disney's Hollywood Studios hits $209, and Disney's Animal Kingdom climbs to $189.
Multiply admission across several family members and several vacation days, and the total can become significant.
Then families have everything else to consider.
Hotels, meals, snacks, merchandise, transportation, and other vacation expenses aren't included in those ticket prices. Guests purchasing Lightning Lane access will also spend additional money.
Increased demand surrounding major openings could also put pressure on hotel availability and prices during popular periods.
And Disney could still increase food, Lightning Lane, or late-2027 holiday pricing.
Being First Isn't Always Worth the Cost
Skipping 2027 doesn't mean missing these experiences.
Families who wait until 2028 can still walk through Tropical Americas, explore Monstropolis, experience the updated Carousel of Progress, and catch up on everything else Disney has introduced.
They simply won't be arriving alongside everyone determined to experience those additions as soon as possible.
Waiting also gives Disney more time to finish ongoing projects and adjust operations after the initial opening periods.
There is no guarantee 2028 will suddenly make Walt Disney World cheap or empty. Neither is particularly realistic.
But regular Disney visitors don't necessarily need to experience everything on opening day.
When a vacation costs thousands of dollars, getting the best experience possible may matter more than getting there first.
Disney World will give fans plenty of reasons to visit in 2027.
For some loyal guests, those same reasons could make waiting another year the better choice.
