There may be some major changes coming to one of the most popular theme parks inside of Walt Disney World Resort.

As we step into 2024, there are multiple construction projects signaling the beginning of something new coming to some of the beloved Disney World theme parks across “The Most Magical Place on Earth.” Construction projects are an essential aspect of the ongoing evolution and maintenance of Walt Disney World. This iconic destination in Orlando, Florida, is constantly striving to enhance guest experiences, maintain safety standards, and uphold its reputation. From the development of new attractions to the refurbishment of existing ones, construction projects play a crucial role in ensuring that the magic of Disney continues to captivate visitors of all ages.

Moreover, infrastructure upgrades and expansions are necessary to accommodate the ever-increasing number of guests who flock to the resort each year. These projects encompass everything from expanding parking facilities and upgrading transportation systems to renovating resort hotels and enhancing dining options.

Interestingly enough, sometimes locations close down without reason, and they simply don’t reopen. That is the case one iconic location inside of Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

The popular Disney World park has a completely abandoned building that hasn’t been opened for anything significant in years. First, there’s the Stage 1 Company Store that is located near MuppetVision 3-D. The store used to be part of the exit route for Disney World guests after they had experienced the beloved attraction, but it remains closed to this day.

The store has featured an array of exclusive MuppetVision 3-D merchandise, encompassing PVC figures, poseable figure sets, plush toys, and pins. Additionally, it has offered action figures from Palisades Toys, along with merchandise showcasing the beloved characters from Fraggle Rock (1983-1987). As a matter of fact, it has been years since the location was opened, and if you look on Google, the location is marked as “permanently closed.” Disney’s official website still lists the store as “temporarily closed.”

Voyage of the Little Mermaid, which has been closed since the pandemic, is expected to reopen with an upgraded and updated show this fall. The new show will be called “The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure.” In an announcement last year, Disney said the show would feature new set pieces, cutting-edge effects, and a new design.

“As part of our continued investment in the Parks experience, Disney Live Entertainment has been dreaming up innovative ways to bring new life to the beloved story of Ariel’s journey to be part of the human world. When it opens, the show will feature stunning new set pieces, cutting-edge effects, and a bold new design that captures Ariel’s imagination and emotions through her unique view of the world around her.”

Disney promises the show will feature numerous beloved musical numbers from the movie, including “Part of Your World,” “Poor Unfortunate Souls,” and “Kiss the Girl.”

This isn’t the only construction project taking place at Walt Disney World Resort.

The most prominent involves Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, the replacement for Splash Mountain at Magic Kingdom. The anticipated attraction is set to open in the summer. In addition, Country Bear Jamboree has closed down to make way for Country Bear Musical Jamboree, which will open this summer. EPCOT is still undergoing numerous construction projects, with Communicore Hall and Plaza set to open later this year. Finally, Disney’s Animal Kingdom is prepping for a major overhaul as it has teased closing down Dinoland, U.S.A., for a new replacement. It’s Tough to be a Bug, which is located in the Tree of Life, will also be shutting down permanently to make way for a Zootopia-themed attraction.
