Disney World Attraction Turns All Guests Away With Unannounced Closure

The disruption comes during a notable moment for The Walt Disney Company as leadership changes continue behind the scenes. Even with these shifts taking place, crowds have remained steady across Disney’s theme parks.

Josh D’Amaro has stepped into the role of Chief Executive Officer of The Walt Disney Company, while Thomas Mazloum now leads Disney Experiences. Despite the corporate changes, guests continue filling the parks, largely focused on attractions and entertainment rather than executive transitions.

The Magic Kingdom is set to receive the largest expansion in its history, introducing both Piston Peak National Park and the long-awaited Villains Land. Major changes are also planned for Disney’s Animal Kingdom and Disney’s Hollywood Studios, signaling a new phase for the Florida resort.

These developments arrive as Bob Iger prepares to step down and D’Amaro moves on from his previous role overseeing Disney Experiences, leaving some fans wondering how upcoming projects will move forward.

Even with international tourism declining slightly, domestic travel continues to play a major role in keeping Disney’s parks performing well. Although overall attendance has shifted, many visitors are spending more during their vacations, helping maintain strong results for the Disney Experiences division.

Some fans, however, have expressed concern about whether that model can continue if the cost of visiting the parks keeps increasing. With spring break crowds arriving and the busy summer travel season approaching, Walt Disney World is preparing for another packed year. But as guests know, unexpected ride closures can still impact a day in the parks.

According to a WDWMagic report, Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure experienced significant unplanned downtime on March 11, remaining closed for the entire day with no reopening in sight as the park's closing approached.

Located in EPCOT’s France Pavilion expansion, the attraction has been one of the park’s most popular rides since it debuted in 2021. On this particular day, however, guests hoping to experience the ride found it unavailable due to technical issues.

The attraction allows visitors to shrink to the size of a rat and race through Gusteau’s restaurant alongside Remy. Reports indicated the ride remained closed throughout the day, and it had still not resumed operations by the evening.

Temporary ride closures are fairly common at large theme parks, particularly for attractions that rely on complex ride systems. However, when a ride remains closed for an entire day, it can significantly disrupt guest plans.

Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure uses a trackless ride system that allows vehicles to move freely through scenes rather than following a fixed track. This helps create the illusion that riders are darting through kitchens and dining rooms surrounded by oversized props.

Because the system depends on precise coordination between ride vehicles, projection screens, and physical sets, even a small technical problem can lead to extended downtime. The attraction is based on Pixar Animation Studios’ 2007 film Ratatouille and first debuted at Walt Disney Studios Park in Disneyland Paris before eventually arriving at EPCOT.

At Walt Disney World, guests enter the experience through a Paris-inspired courtyard within the France Pavilion. Riders then board rat-shaped vehicles that travel through large kitchen sets and projection-driven scenes as Chef Skinner attempts to capture them.

The ride blends practical sets with digital projection to make guests feel as if they have stepped directly into Remy’s culinary world. The attraction also received a notable update not long ago. In November 2025, Disney temporarily closed Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure for a short refurbishment that replaced the original 3D projection system with upgraded 2D digital visuals.

Previously, riders wore 3D glasses throughout the experience to help merge projected images with the ride’s physical sets. After the refurbishment, those glasses were removed, and the attraction now features brighter visuals displayed in standard 2D.

Disney said the change was designed to make the ride more comfortable for guests who found the 3D effects disorienting. The update sparked mixed reactions among theme park fans. Some appreciated the clearer visuals and the removal of 3D glasses, while others felt the original version offered a more immersive blend of screens and sets.

Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure serves as the centerpiece of the France Pavilion expansion that opened at EPCOT in 2021. The project added new pathways, entertainment areas, and dining locations, including the nearby restaurant La Crêperie de Paris.

Since opening, the attraction has consistently posted long wait times, often exceeding an hour during peak travel periods. Because of its popularity, an unexpected closure can redirect crowds toward other major EPCOT attractions, including Frozen Ever After and Soarin' Around the World.

For now, guests visiting EPCOT may want to check the attraction’s status in the My Disney Experience app before heading to the France Pavilion.
