A new test is underway at Walt Disney World Resort, and it could affect how some guests spend their downtime this summer.

With temperatures soaring across Central Florida, Disney is placing additional controls on access to a major resort pool at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort, reinforcing long-standing rules that reserve hotel amenities for registered guests.
Guests arriving at Doubloon Lagoon, the signature pool at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – French Quarter, are now being met by cast members before entering the recreation area. According to reports from the resort, visitors must show proof that they are staying at Port Orleans before receiving a wristband that grants access to the pool complex.
The move represents a more visible form of enforcement for Disney’s existing policy regarding pool hopping, which generally prevents guests from using pools at resorts where they are not staying. Historically, enforcement has varied throughout Walt Disney World, but the latest test suggests Disney is paying closer attention to pool capacity as demand increases during the summer travel season.

Disney’s Port Orleans Resort remains unique among Moderate Resorts because it operates as two interconnected properties: Riverside and French Quarter. Known for its Southern-inspired architecture, waterfront pathways, and relaxed atmosphere away from the theme parks, the resort has long allowed guests to move freely between both sections.
That arrangement remains intact. Guests staying at Port Orleans Riverside can still use amenities at French Quarter, while French Quarter guests continue to enjoy access to Riverside facilities. The only guests affected by the current test are those who are not staying at either Port Orleans hotel.
Kenny the Pirate detailed the new policy, writing: “A sign is now posted outside the Doubloon Lagoon Pool stating, ‘Welcome! The Doubloon Lagoon Pool is for the exclusive use of Disney's Port Orleans Resort Guests only,'”
The report also notes: “A cast member is stationed by the gate, checking for resort reservations and issuing wristbands,” they continue. “Disney's Port Orleans Guests are welcome to use pools at both Riverside and French Quarter. However, if you do not have a reservation at either of these resorts, you will be unable to enter the Doubloon Lagoon pool.”

While the procedure may be new for Doubloon Lagoon, Disney fans have seen similar restrictions elsewhere. One of the best-known examples is Stormalong Bay, the extensive pool complex shared by Disney’s Yacht Club Resort and Beach Club Resort. Because of its popularity, access has long been controlled through wristbands and guest verification.
Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort has likewise implemented tighter pool access measures in recent years. For guests actually staying at Port Orleans, the new checks may be viewed as a positive development. Doubloon Lagoon remains one of the resort’s headline amenities thanks to its sea serpent waterslide, spacious layout, and popularity with families.
By limiting access to registered guests, Disney may be able to reduce congestion and improve the overall experience for visitors staying on property. The rollout comes as Walt Disney World enters one of its hottest periods of the year.
During the summer months, resort pools become a major part of many vacations, offering guests a break from long park days and Florida's intense heat. Disney has also expanded recreation and entertainment offerings at several hotels in recent years as it continues emphasizing the value of staying on-site.

Whether the wristband system eventually spreads beyond Port Orleans remains to be seen.
For now, guests planning to cool off at Doubloon Lagoon should expect an extra stop before entering the pool area—and be ready to show proof that they are staying at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort.
