Once upon a time, it felt like the Walt Disney World Resorts were playgrounds for Guests from all over the Parks. Pool-hopping between the Disney Resort’s epic pools was as common as Resort-hopping is, and the Resort lobbies felt like open invitations for those investing time and money to visit the House of Mouse.
Although Resort-hopping is still an everyday Walt Disney World Resort activity, the reservations are more exclusive, the restrictions are tighter, and it’s becoming more apparent that your home Resort is where you should stay. But pools, dining spots like Ohana at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, and themed-to-the-nines lobbies aren’t the only draw for Disney Guests. Most Disney Deluxe Resorts offer prime real estate for fireworks viewing.
A welcome break from a crowded Disney Park during holidays like July 4, spots like the beach at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort and the rooftop of Disney’s Contemporary Resort have been lauded for their views of the spectacular fireworks shows. Instead of throwing ‘bows with crowds to get a spot in Liberty Square, Resorts are more of a peaceful space to catch a fireworks display at Disney. But in 2023, Disney Vacation Club Resorts are tightening their gates before the holiday.
Where You Can and Can’t Watch the Fireworks
Disney is one of the few places on earth that hosts fireworks shows at Magic Kingdom and EPCOT daily. Top-tier viewing areas at Disney Resorts are typically fair game, but the year’s “Disney’s Celebrate America! – A Fourth of July Concert in the Sky” show at the Magic Kingdom comes with VIP access. Here’s what you need to know about Disney’s most famous fireworks hubs.
Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows
There’s nothing quite as dreamy as sipping a piña colada with your toes in the sand while a masterful fireworks display graces the sky. But that bubble will burst this Fourth of July for those not registered as Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort Guests. Guests staying at the Deluxe Resort must pick up wristbands on July 3 and July 4.
Here’s where you can find them:
- Monday, July 3: 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. at the Front Desk (Bell Services)
- Tuesday, July 4: 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Front Desk (Bell Services)
- Tuesday, July 4: 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Lava Pool Gate Near Hawaii Building
Bay Lake Tower at Disney’s Contemporary Resort
According to the Disney Vacation Club, another hot spot for fireworks viewing will likely issue a similar schedule to Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. That means the Resort’s fourth-floor viewing gem will be restricted to only Guests with wristbands.
Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa
Disney enthusiasts know the marina across from Gasparilla Island Grill at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa is ideal for catching fireworks on the Fourth. At the time of writing, no official restrictions have been announced, but it’s a good idea to check in before cementing plans to view the fireworks from the Floridian in case the wristband rule is enforced there too.
Cinderella Castle isn’t the only backdrop for Disney’s Independence Day fireworks. Guests can also watch EPCOT’s “Heartbeat of Freedom” spectacular at 9:00 p.m. on July 4 over The World Showcase Lagoon. Luckily the EPCOT area Resorts like Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club aren’t restricting Guests from viewing the show from their properties.
No matter how you catch the ultimate Fourth celebrations at the Most Magical Place on Earth, it’s best to put a plan in place so you can soak in the magic stress-free.
