When it comes to vacationing at Walt Disney World Resort, the theme parks are undoubtedly the main attractions. However, let’s not forget about the fabulous Disney Resort pools, which are a close second in terms of guest enjoyment.

From thrilling water slides to relaxing lazy rivers, Disney’s pools offer a splash-tastic retreat that many guests eagerly anticipate during their stay.

Dive into the Magic of Disney Pools

Disney Resort pools are more than just places to cool off; they are intricately themed oases designed to complement the magic of the parks. For example, Stormalong Bay at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort and Beach Club Resort features a sprawling sandy-bottom pool and a thrilling 200-foot water slide. Meanwhile, the Lava Pool at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, complete with its own volcano, provides an exotic, tropical escape.

With such incredible amenities, it’s no wonder guests often schedule dedicated pool time in their Disney vacation itineraries. Whether you’re looking to unwind with a cocktail or let the kids enjoy the pool’s splash zone, Disney pools are a highlight for many.

Weather Woes and Pool Closures

Unfortunately, Mother Nature doesn’t always play along with our poolside plans.

Walt Disney World Resort is located in Central Florida, a region known for its frequent thunderstorms, especially during hurricane season from June to November. This unpredictable weather can lead to temporary pool closures for safety reasons.

It’s crucial to understand that when a storm approaches, Disney Cast Members must adhere to strict safety protocols. Pools close when lightning is detected within six miles, even if the weather seems clear where you are. This precaution ensures that guests remain safe, as lightning poses a serious risk, and Disney’s safety measures are in place to protect everyone.

A Cast Member’s Plea for Patience

Recently, a Disney Cast Member took to Reddit to share their frustration with guests who reacted poorly to these necessary closures. In a heartfelt post, the Cast Member explained their role and the importance of adhering to safety guidelines during stormy weather. Here’s a glimpse of their message:

“As a recreation cast member (not a lifeguard but pool greeter), I just want to give my input during the summer storms season. It’s tough when we have to close the pool due to lightning in the area. It could be sunny where you are, but we must clear the pool deck if lightning is detected within six miles. We don’t know how long the closure will last, so please be patient and don’t take out your frustration on us.”

The Reddit thread quickly filled with supportive comments from fellow Disney fans, emphasizing the importance of safety and expressing gratitude for the Cast Members’ hard work.

As one commenter pointed out, “Lightning can be incredibly dangerous, and Disney has the technology to monitor and ensure safety. Thanks to the Cast Members for their vigilance.”

While weather-related pool closures can be a letdown, Disney Resort offers plenty of other activities to keep the fun going. From themed dining experiences to indoor games and crafts, there’s always something to enjoy.

So, if your Disney trip encounters a bit of rain, remember that the Cast Members are doing their best to ensure your safety and that the magic of Disney continues, rain or shine.
