Disney World Confirms Major Fantasmic! Change, Starting August 23

A Disney's Hollywood Studios tradition is getting a notable scheduling change later this month.

Starting August 23, Disney World will move Fantasmic! to an earlier start time, changing how guests may need to plan the final hours of their park day.

The adjustment is only 30 minutes on paper. But when you're trying to fit another attraction, dinner, or shopping into a packed Hollywood Studios visit, those 30 minutes can matter.

Fantasmic! Moves to 8:30 P.M.

Through August 22, Fantasmic! is scheduled for 9:00 p.m., with a second 10:30 p.m. performance offered on select nights.

That changes August 23.

The first performance will move to 8:30 p.m. each night. When Disney offers two performances, the second show will move to 10:00 p.m.

Select Fridays, Sundays, and Tuesdays are currently scheduled to receive those two performances.

The change makes sense as daylight hours gradually decrease. Fantasmic! is an outdoor nighttime production, so earlier darkness allows Disney to move the show forward.

Disney adjusts entertainment schedules throughout the year, but this particular change could have a noticeable impact on guests who build their Hollywood Studios evening around Fantasmic!

Guests May Need to End Their Park Day Earlier

The show itself may start at 8:30 p.m., but that doesn't mean guests should arrive at the Hollywood Hills Amphitheater at exactly 8:30.

Disney allows guests to arrive as early as 90 minutes before each performance and recommends arriving early to secure a seat.

Many guests won't need to arrive that far ahead. Still, getting there 30 to 60 minutes before showtime is a safer strategy for those who don't want to risk arriving when the theater is already crowded.

With a 9:00 p.m. performance, a guest might have targeted an 8:30 p.m. arrival. Starting August 23, that same strategy means heading toward Fantasmic! around 8:00 p.m.

Suddenly, the scheduling change has taken away another 30 minutes that could have gone toward an attraction.

That can be significant at a park with major rides including Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, Slinky Dog Dash, The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, and Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway.

A Second Performance Could Be the Better Strategy

Guests visiting on a night with a 10:00 p.m. performance will have another option.

Instead of joining the crowd heading toward the first show, they can continue experiencing attractions and save Fantasmic! for later.

The nighttime spectacular runs approximately 29 minutes and combines water projections, pyrotechnics, music, performers, and Disney characters as Mickey Mouse battles Disney Villains inside his dream.

Fantasmic! remains one of Hollywood Studios' biggest nighttime experiences, which makes its schedule important when planning a full park day.

Beginning August 23, that planning needs to start 30 minutes earlier.

For guests determined to see the first performance, the biggest takeaway is simple: don't treat 8:30 p.m. as the time your evening starts winding down. Depending on how early you want to enter the amphitheater, your final attraction may need to happen considerably earlier.
