Disney World Erases Popular EPCOT Experience From Schedule This September

Guests planning a fall visit to EPCOT may want to double-check their dining plans. Disney has confirmed that one of the park's most recognizable restaurants will close later this year, leaving visitors without one of EPCOT's most unique dining experiences for several months.

The closure is only expected to be temporary, but it will affect guests traveling after early September who were hoping to enjoy a meal at this longtime favorite before the restaurant returns later in 2026.

EPCOT Is About More Than Attractions

While every Walt Disney World park has its own personality, EPCOT has carved out a reputation as the resort's dining destination. Plenty of guests visit with restaurant reservations already secured, knowing that eating their way around the park is just as important as experiencing the attractions.

World Showcase plays a huge role in that reputation. The area allows visitors to sample food inspired by 11 different countries, making it possible to enjoy everything from pastries in France to sushi in Japan, tacos in Mexico, and fish and chips in the United Kingdom during a single visit.

That variety encourages guests to slow down and enjoy the atmosphere rather than rushing from one attraction to the next. Even so, one of EPCOT's most memorable restaurants isn't located in World Showcase at all.

An Experience Unlike Any Other

Coral Reef Restaurant has remained a favorite for years because the experience begins long before the food reaches the table.

Inside The Seas pavilion in World Nature, guests dine beside an enormous aquarium filled with marine life. Large viewing windows create the feeling of eating beneath the ocean as sharks, sea turtles, rays, and colorful fish swim through the water throughout the day.

The ever-changing scenery gives every meal a different feel. Some families make reservations specifically so children can watch the animals during lunch or dinner, while others simply enjoy the calm atmosphere after spending hours exploring the park.

It's that setting that has helped Coral Reef Restaurant earn its reputation as one of EPCOT's signature table-service locations.

Disney Has Set the Closure Date

Disney has confirmed that Coral Reef Restaurant will temporarily close beginning September 8, 2026.

The restaurant's webpage states, “Coral Reef Restaurant will be temporarily closed beginning September 8, 2026, and is expected to reopen later in 2026.”

Beyond that announcement, Disney has not shared additional information about the closure. The company has not explained what work will take place or announced an exact reopening date, saying only that the restaurant is expected to return before the end of the year.

Guests visiting after September 8 should plan on choosing another dining location until the refurbishment is complete.

Projects like this happen regularly throughout Walt Disney World as Disney performs maintenance and updates across restaurants, attractions, and resorts.

There Will Be Plenty of Alternatives

Although Coral Reef Restaurant will be unavailable for part of the fall, EPCOT still offers one of the largest collections of dining locations anywhere at Walt Disney World.

World Showcase features restaurants representing all 11 countries around the lagoon. Visitors can enjoy meals at San Angel Inn Restaurante, Le Cellier Steakhouse, Biergarten Restaurant, and Via Napoli Ristorante e Pizzeria, among many others.

Outside World Showcase, guests can book a meal at Space 220 for its immersive space-themed setting or visit Garden Grill Restaurant for its rotating dining room and character dining experience. Connections Eatery also remains a convenient quick-service option near the front of the park.

Seasonal festivals bring even more food choices throughout much of the year, with outdoor kitchens serving limited-time dishes that encourage guests to sample something new as they explore EPCOT.

Looking Ahead

Temporary closures can be disappointing, especially when they involve a restaurant that has become part of many families' vacation traditions. Coral Reef Restaurant offers an atmosphere that few dining locations can match, making it a popular stop for repeat visitors year after year.

Beginning September 8, 2026, that experience will be unavailable while Disney completes its temporary closure. The good news is that Disney expects the restaurant to reopen later this year, and until then, guests will still have no shortage of outstanding places to eat throughout EPCOT.
