Walt Disney World guests riding Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind at EPCOT on September 21, 2026, got a very different attraction than the one they were expecting. For that single day, Disney pulled the ride's usual randomized soundtrack system and locked every vehicle onto one song: “September” by Earth, Wind & Fire. It's now an annual event at the park, and this year's version came with longer-than-usual waits, a shortened preshow, and a specialty drink available for one day only.
Why This Song, and Why This Day
On a typical day, Cosmic Rewind shuffles between six tracks: “September” by Earth, Wind & Fire, “Disco Inferno” by The Trammps, “Conga” by Gloria Estefan, “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” by Tears for Fears, “I Ran (So Far Away)” by A Flock of Seagulls, and “One Way or Another” by Blondie. That randomness is part of the ride's appeal — plenty of guests ride multiple times back-to-back just trying to land every track.
None of that unpredictability was in play on September 21. Every cycle, all day, played “September,” a callback to the song's own lyric about “the 21st night of September.” This is the fourth year in a row Disney has run this promotion, and it's become something of a fixture on EPCOT's yearly calendar.
The Preshow Got Skipped Too
The soundtrack wasn't the only change. A post on X on September 21 confirmed that Disney also bypassed the ride's preshow for the day. Normally, guests move through the Wonders of Xandar pavilion first, where the story setup for the coaster happens. With that step removed, guests moved straight to the loading area, cutting the wait time in the queue itself but also cutting the narrative buildup.
Regular riders likely didn't notice much of a difference, since the preshow content is already familiar to them. First-time riders on September 21, though, experienced a version of the attraction that skipped a piece of its usual storytelling.
Wait Times Spiked All Day
Demand for the one-day soundtrack swap was obvious in the numbers. Queue Times data showed the posted wait for Cosmic Rewind hit a peak of 185 minutes in the evening. Even rope drop wasn't spared — guests arriving at park opening were looking at a posted 140-minute wait right out of the gate.

The one exception to the long lines came late at night. At 10:40 p.m., the posted wait dropped to just 50 minutes, lining up with EPCOT's Extended Evening Hours from 9:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., which are only open to guests staying at Disney Deluxe resorts. With fewer people in the park during that window, the wait dropped significantly compared to the rest of the day.
A Drink to Match
Disney also rolled out a limited-time menu item for the occasion. Connections Eatery served up the Supernova Sip, a Guardians of the Galaxy-themed beverage, available only on September 21. It gave the day a food-and-beverage tie-in on top of the ride changes.
What This Means for You
If you're chasing that Earth, Wind & Fire track specifically, this yearly event is your one guaranteed shot at it without relying on the ride's usual randomizer. Just know that going in on September 21 means longer lines across the board, a shortened preshow if it's your first ride, and a small window late at night — specifically during Extended Evening Hours for Deluxe resort guests — where the wait drops considerably. Standard operations, including the regular soundtrack rotation and full preshow, return on September 22.
