Disney World Confirms Major Cosmic Rewind Change for September 21 Only

EPCOT guests have learned that riding Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind comes with a little bit of musical luck.

You can know the attraction's story. You can know where the coaster is going. You might even have ridden it dozens of times.

But you still don't normally know which song will start playing.

Disney is temporarily changing that setup on September 21, 2026, and longtime Cosmic Rewind fans will probably recognize exactly why.

September Returns to EPCOT

For the fourth year in a row, “September” by Earth, Wind & Fire will become the only song played aboard Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind on September 21.

It's a simple tradition built around the song's famous reference to that particular night in September.

Rather than allowing Cosmic Rewind to randomly cycle through its normal soundtrack, Disney will dedicate the day to one track.

That creates an unusual situation for riders.

Usually, there's no way to guarantee you'll get “September.” You could ride several times and hear completely different songs.

On September 21, there's no guessing required.

Cosmic Rewind's Musical Lottery Disappears

On most days, Cosmic Rewind can select from six tracks.

Along with “September,” riders can hear “Conga,” “Disco Inferno,” “Everybody Wants to Rule the World,” “I Ran (So Far Away),” or “One Way or Another.”

That variety can change the feeling of the experience.

Some guests strongly prefer one song over another, and repeat visitors sometimes make it a goal to experience every soundtrack combination.

September 21 works differently.

Instead of wondering whether you'll finally get the track you're missing, riders already know “September” is waiting for them.

That's great news if it's your favorite song.

If you're trying to complete all six tracks and “September” is already checked off your list, however, you'll need another day.

More Is Happening Outside the Ride

Disney is also expanding the celebration beyond Cosmic Rewind's soundtrack.

A new beverage will be offered for September 21 only, giving visitors another limited-time option connected to the occasion.

Star-Lord is getting involved as well.

Guests will have an opportunity to meet the Guardians character during the celebration.

Those additions give fans a little more to experience instead of simply riding Cosmic Rewind and leaving.

It's not being presented as a major EPCOT festival or lengthy seasonal event. Instead, it's a one-day celebration built around a connection that has become increasingly familiar to Cosmic Rewind fans.

Everything Returns to Normal Afterward

The soundtrack change is temporary.

Once September 21 ends, Cosmic Rewind is expected to return to the rotating six-song format guests normally experience.

That means the uncertainty will return along with it.

For fans, that's a big part of the attraction's replay value. Even after you've experienced the coaster itself, a different song can make another ride feel fresh.

But once a year, Disney does the opposite.

Instead of making guests wonder which song they'll hear, EPCOT gives everyone the same answer.

So, anyone who has spent ride after ride unsuccessfully chasing “September” finally has an easy solution.
