Disney World has confirmed that multiple resort pools will be unavailable at various points in 2026. Although the updates were shared quietly, they’re already shaping how guests plan for future trips. Pools are a major part of the Disney resort experience, and when several locations face downtime in the same year, it changes the conversation around staying onsite.
For guests planning well in advance, this information matters. Pool availability often influences which resort families choose, especially for trips that rely on midday breaks and slower evenings. With details still emerging, many guests are now paying closer attention to what’s included—and what might not be—during a 2026 stay.

Why Disney Resort Pools Matter So Much
Disney World resort hotels are designed to feel like extensions of the parks themselves. Guests stay surrounded by themed environments, easy transportation, and perks like early theme park entry. Everything works together to keep guests immersed from morning to night.
Pools play a massive role in that immersion. They’re not just functional—they’re themed, playful, and built for all ages. Slides, splash zones, and interactive features turn pool time into a destination of its own. For kids, especially, pool breaks often become the most talked-about part of the vacation.
Because of that, changes to pool access feel more personal than most hotel updates.

A Vacation Rhythm That May Shift
Many Disney trips follow a familiar flow—early mornings in the parks. Afternoons spent recharging. Evenings filled with dining and nighttime entertainment. Pools anchor that downtime.
When pools aren’t readily available, guests have to rethink how they structure their day. Disney does provide alternatives, but convenience matters, particularly for families traveling with young children.
All-Star Sports Sees Early 2026 Pool Downtime
At Disney’s All-Star Sports Resort, the Surfboard Bay Pool and kiddie pool will close from January through late April 2026. These pools are a significant draw for guests staying at the resort.
Disney has stated that swimming options will still be available. The Grand Slam Leisure Pool at All-Star Sports remains open, and guests can also visit pools at All-Star Music and All-Star Movies. That includes multiple feature pools and kiddie pools across the All-Star complex. While options exist, they may require extra walking or planning.

Bay Lake Tower Guests Share Pool Space
Guests staying at Bay Lake Tower at Disney’s Contemporary Resort will also be affected in early 2026. The Bay Cove Pool will close from January 26 through early May. During that time, the Cove Bar, water play area, and whirlpool spa at Bay Lake Tower will be unavailable.
Disney has confirmed that guests can still use the Bay Lake Pool and the Contemporary’s main pool areas. While this keeps swimming options open, shared facilities could feel more crowded during busy seasons.

Fort Wilderness Construction Adds Questions
At Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground, construction around the Meadow area will continue through mid-2026. For now, the Meadow Swimmin’ Pool and Wilderness Swimmin’ Pool remain open, though guests should expect nearby work and possible impacts to surrounding areas.
Disney hasn’t announced any pool closures here, but the scope of the project has raised questions about future access. Once complete, the area is expected to feature a new zero-entry pool, a redesigned deck, and additional recreational courts, offering a distinctly different experience in the future.

Planning Ahead Becomes More Important
None of these changes is unusual on its own. Disney regularly updates and maintains its resorts. However, when several pool areas are impacted in the same year, it places greater responsibility on guests to plan carefully.
For 2026 trips, resort choice may matter more than ever. Pool-focused vacations may require flexibility, and guests should stay informed about updates as plans evolve. Disney World is still delivering the magic—but next year, enjoying a pool day may take a little more strategy.
