Disney World Is Closing a Fan-Favorite Resort Starting Monday

Disney's BoardWalk is shutting down the Village Green at Disney World on August 10, and regulars will feel it.

Here is why this one stings more than a typical refurbishment notice.

Look, every Disney resort has that one spot the repeat guests quietly claim. At Disney's BoardWalk, it is the Village Green, and it never gets any credit for it.

Not a headliner. Hardly in the marketing. Half the guests walking past do not register what they are looking at. But if you stay here regularly, that patch of grass pulls serious weight.

Kids tear around on it while parents finally get to sit. People use it to decompress mid-park-day, which matters enormously at a resort where you can walk to EPCOT and boat over to Disney's Hollywood Studios. Families spread out picnics. And once the sun drops, it turns into Movie Under the Stars, one of those quiet resort offerings guests remember way longer than they expect to.

Gone for a month.

The Dates

Village Green courtyard closes August 10 through September 4, 2026.

Four weeks, dropped right into late summer travel and the kickoff of Halloween season over at Magic Kingdom.

Guests at Disney's BoardWalk Inn and Disney's BoardWalk Villas lose access to the courtyard for the whole run.

Before You Panic About the Movies

The programming is not getting axed.

Recreation normally run on the Village Green is relocating elsewhere on the resort. Movie Under the Stars, yoga, crafts, all of it.

Nothing canceled. Just moved. Hit the front desk or Guest Services when you check in and ask where everything went.

Ask about Movie Under the Stars, especially because the setting is half of what makes it work.

And There Is More Coming to Disney World

The Village Green is one piece of a much longer project.

Refurbishment work is underway in select areas of Disney's BoardWalk Inn and Disney's BoardWalk Villas and will continue into late 2026.

Then a separate closure is already booked for next year. From January 11, 2027, through April 2027, the Luna Park Pool, Luna Park Crazy Play Area, and Leaping Horse Libations all go offline for routine maintenance.

Small mercy on that one. The pools at both the Villas and the Inn stay open, so nobody is stranded without swimming.

What Is Still Running

Trip lands inside the closure? The rest of the resort is fine.

Disney's BoardWalk is a quarter-mile promenade in the EPCOT Resort Area, built to echo turn-of-the-century boardwalks in coastal cities like Coney Island and Atlantic City. Hours run from 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Variety act performers work the promenade, and Atlantic Dance Hall covers the late crowd.

Dining goes from multi-course dinners down to on-the-go sweets, which is honestly one of the strongest arguments for staying here in the first place.

Recreation includes classic arcade games plus Surrey bikes built for four. If the Village Green was your family plan, a Surrey ride is a decent substitute that keeps the group together.

Location is untouched. Short walk to EPCOT, quick boat ride to Disney's Hollywood Studios.

Disney World Parking Heads Up

Relevant if you are driving in.

Parking at Disney's BoardWalk Inn is limited, and Disney is encouraging resort hotel guests to use the complimentary transportation options instead. This is a reminder that guests at Disney Springs without a resort reservation or dining reservation cannot use the buses to get to the resort.

Self-parking may not be available if you show up in your own car. Valet might be your only shot. Anyone visiting EPCOT should just use the EPCOT Guest Parking Lot.

Should You Move Your Disney World Reservation

Probably not.

One courtyard down for four weeks does not justify rebooking, especially with the activities relocating instead of vanishing. Dining, promenade, entertainment, and the walk to two parks are all untouched.

That said, if the Village Green is the actual reason you pick this resort, and for some people it genuinely is, start looking at dates after September 4.

Families with little kids will notice most. That open grass is legitimately useful when you need somewhere for children to burn off energy that is not a pool or a hotel room.
