Disney World Issues Major Closure Notice for Two Popular Restaurants Ahead of Summer Crowds

Planning a Disney World vacation already takes serious strategy. Guests spend months figuring out hotel stays, ride priorities, Lightning Lane selections, and dining reservations before they ever arrive in Florida.

Now, Disney visitors heading to Walt Disney World this summer may need to rethink their dining plans, too.

Disney has confirmed that two major restaurants will disappear from the resort’s dining lineup for extended periods this summer, and one of them has already shut its doors.

The closures come during a season when Disney is also rolling out a huge wave of new attractions and entertainment offerings across the parks.

Summer 2026 Is Bringing Major Changes

Disney World is entering one of its busiest summers in years, with new experiences.

At Disney’s Hollywood Studios, guests are preparing for the debut of Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster Starring the Muppets. Over in Galaxy’s Edge, Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run is also introducing a new Mandalorian mission featuring Grogu.

The park is also expanding with The Walt Disney Studios area and The Magic of Disney Animation experience.

EPCOT guests will soon get Soarin’ Across America for a limited run, while Disney’s Animal Kingdom prepares to launch Bluey’s Wild World beginning May 26 during Cool Kid Summer.

Disney is clearly investing heavily in summer entertainment. Unfortunately, that same season is also bringing notable restaurant closures.

Yachtsman Steakhouse Is Out Until August

One of the biggest dining changes has already happened.

Yachtsman Steakhouse at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort officially closed on May 11, 2026, for refurbishment work. Disney expects the restaurant to remain unavailable throughout the summer before reopening sometime in August.

That is a significant loss for guests staying near Crescent Lake.

Yachtsman Steakhouse has remained one of Disney World’s most recognizable signature dining restaurants for years. Many guests visit the location specifically because it offers a quieter atmosphere than restaurants inside the parks.

The location also made it easy for Yacht Club, Beach Club, and BoardWalk guests to grab dinner without having to travel across the Disney property.

Grand Floridian Cafe Will Also Close

Another restaurant closure is right around the corner.

Disney confirmed that the Grand Floridian Cafe will close beginning in mid-July 2026 for refurbishment. Current plans keep the restaurant unavailable until sometime in October.

That timeline effectively removes it from most of the remaining summer travel season.

Grand Floridian Cafe has become a favorite for guests wanting a more relaxed meal inside Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa. Breakfast and brunch have especially become popular there over the years.

The closure also removes one of the resort’s more casual table-service options during a very crowded travel season.

Why Timing Matters Here

Disney refurbishes restaurants all the time. The issue here is when these closures are happening.

Summer remains one of the busiest periods of the year at Walt Disney World. Deluxe Resorts like Yacht Club and Grand Floridian attract large crowds during school break season, and many guests expect nearby dining convenience as part of the experience.

Now, surrounding restaurants will likely absorb much of that demand.

Guests near Yacht Club may shift toward Ale & Compass, Flying Fish, and Beaches & Cream. Grand Floridian guests may find it harder to secure reservations at Citricos, Narcoossee’s, and 1900 Park Fare.

That pressure can spread quickly across the entire resort.

Disney Still Has Plenty of Dining Options

Thankfully, guests still have a long list of restaurants to choose from this summer.

Magic Kingdom locations like Be Our Guest Restaurant and Cinderella’s Royal Table continue operating normally. Disney’s Hollywood Studios still offers the Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater Restaurant, while EPCOT guests can visit Space 220.

Resort dining also remains strong despite the closures. California Grill, Sanaa, and Nomad Lounge continue serving guests across the Disney property.

Disney Springs will likely become an even bigger dining destination this summer as well. Popular restaurants like The Boathouse, Wine Bar George, Morimoto Asia, Raglan Road, and Chef Art Smith’s Homecomin’ are all still operating.

Disney’s Summer Dining Crunch May Surprise Guests

Disney World is adding a huge number of attractions and entertainment offerings this summer, but guests may also notice that dining reservations feel tighter than usual.

Losing Yachtsman Steakhouse and Grand Floridian Cafe during one of the busiest travel seasons of the year removes two popular restaurants from an already crowded reservation system.

For many guests, that may mean planning dining reservations earlier than ever before during summer 2026.
