Another change is coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and this one has nothing to do with construction walls or long-term attraction updates. Instead, Disney is temporarily removing a guest-favorite experience for a different kind of offering—one that continues to grow in popularity across the parks.

The park is adjusting its lineup once again, this time pulling an indoor show to make room for a special retail event. Vacation Fun–An Original Animated Short with Mickey & Minnie at the Mickey Shorts Theater is set to close beginning April 29, 2026, as Disney prepares for a major Star Wars-themed merchandise release.
While closures are common at Walt Disney World, this particular situation reflects how Disney is increasingly dedicating space to limited-time experiences centered around exclusive products and themed celebrations.
Located inside the Mickey Shorts Theater, Vacation Fun has offered guests a quick escape into a colorful animated world featuring Mickey and Minnie Mouse. The short film, styled after the modern Mickey Mouse cartoons, delivers a fast-paced and comedic storyline that has resonated with audiences.
Beyond the entertainment, the attraction has also served a practical purpose. With air conditioning and a brief runtime, it’s been a convenient place for guests to rest and recharge—especially during hot Florida afternoons. That break spot, however, will soon be unavailable.

Instead of undergoing maintenance, the theater is being repurposed for Star Wars Day festivities on May 4, according to WDWMagic.
Disney plans to use the space as part of a dedicated merchandise event for May the Fourth, featuring exclusive items tied to the Star Wars franchise. These types of releases have become increasingly popular, often drawing significant crowds eager to get their hands on limited-edition products.
To help manage attendance, Disney will utilize a virtual queue system for merchandise locations at both Hollywood Studios and Disney Springs. This isn’t an isolated move. Disney has been steadily expanding its focus on event-driven retail, turning product launches into experiences of their own.
Exclusive merchandise, themed releases, and special shopping events now play a major role in park operations, sometimes rivaling attractions in terms of guest interest. To support this demand, Disney has been converting existing venues—like theaters—into temporary retail hubs.

The pause of Vacation Fun highlights this ongoing shift. Attractions remain essential, but short-term events and merchandise offerings are increasingly shaping how guests spend their time in the parks. Not everyone will welcome the change. Guests visiting during this period may find the loss of an indoor attraction particularly inconvenient.
Disney’s Hollywood Studios has fewer indoor, air-conditioned options compared to other parks, making spaces like the Mickey Shorts Theater especially valuable. Families with small children may feel the impact more, as the show provides a gentler alternative to thrill rides such as The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror and Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance.
Disney has yet to confirm when Vacation Fun will reopen, though the closure is expected to be temporary. Current expectations point to a return sometime later in 2026.
