Planning to visit Walt Disney World Resort soon? Here’s something to keep on your radar. While the parks are offering their full lineup to guests, Central Florida’s storm season might play a role in your trip.
On May 21, for the first time since the pandemic closures five years ago, all six Walt Disney World Resort parks opened their gates on the same day. That includes Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Blizzard Beach, and Typhoon Lagoon—a rare and exciting full-park moment for guests.
However, the region’s weather has a habit of shifting quickly, and right now, meteorologists are warning of an elevated chance for severe storms. According to Click Orlando, the area is under a “Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5) for severe weather through Friday,” with potential for gusty winds (up to 60 mph), lightning, small hail, and heavy rainfall.
Water parks in particular are often the first to temporarily close when inclement weather strikes. Blizzard Beach has seen multiple shutdowns in the past due to cold fronts, especially over the winter and earlier this year.
Looking ahead, forecasters expect more storm activity into the weekend and beyond. “Each afternoon, expect scattered to widespread storms,” Click Orlando noted. “Friday may see a few strong to borderline severe storms, similar to Thursday. The pattern stays unsettled through Sunday.” In other words—be prepared, especially if your park plans include lots of outdoor fun.
As of now, there are no announced closures on the Disney World calendar for the two water parks, but weather can prompt quick changes. It’s a good idea to keep your My Disney Experience app handy and check park hours before heading out each day.
This full-resort reopening came right as Universal Orlando Resort introduced its newest theme park gate—Epic Universe—which unofficially opened the following day. With Central Florida offering so many attractions, flexibility in your schedule can make all the difference when storms roll in.
Don’t let the weather dampen your plans! Pack a poncho, keep tabs on the radar, and get ready to enjoy the full spectrum of Disney magic—whatever the forecast may bring.
