New warnings have been issued for Central Florida, affecting all guests heading out to Orlando parks like Walt Disney World Resort and Universal Orlando Resort. The cold never bothered Elsa, but will it bother everyone else?
On Tuesday, December 3, and Wednesday, December 4, the Walt Disney World Resort will officially shut down one of its theme parks as the Sunshine State braces for intensely cool weather. Across the two days, guests will not be able to experience Disney’s Blizzard Beach Water Park as temperatures plummet. The next listed opening time for the Disney theme park is at 10 a.m. on Thursday, December 5.
The closure comes as frost and freeze warnings have been issued for Central Florida on Tuesday and Wednesday as “arctic air blasts through the region” (per Click Orlando).
“From Tuesday to Wednesday, a major weather system will move across the Southeast U.S., pushing even more cold air into the area,” Click Orlando reported. “This will keep things dry and below normal.”
“Temperatures for the next few nights will dip into the mid-30s to low 40s areawide, with a widespread chance for frost Tuesday and Wednesday mornings,” the outlet continued.
Despite relatively sunny and partly cloudy skies, the wind chill will keep temperatures low, meaning guests will need to wrap up to stay warm while at places like Walt Disney World Resort. However, it isn’t just frost and freeze warnings that visitors and residents must be aware of.
“The combination of dry and breezy weather this week will also increase the risk of fire conditions,” the Click Orlando weather report explained. “Under these parameters, any little spark could start and spread a fire quickly.”
It’s not unusual for theme parks, especially water parks, to close due to the cold weather. Across the way at Universal Orlando Resort, Universal’s Volcano Bay Water Theme Park will also shut down from Tuesday, December 3, through Thursday, December 5, reopening on Friday, December 6, 2024, at 10 a.m.
Weather warnings are commonplace for Florida, and 2024 has been no exception. The state was battered by back-to-back hurricanes this hurricane season. First Hurricane Helene caused devastation, followed two weeks later by Hurricane Milton. The latter caused both Disney and Universal to shut down, with guests restricted to their hotel resorts while the storm passed through.
