Disney World Hikes Price of Baby Item From $1 to $5

Walt Disney World Resort is charging $4.99 for rubber ducks that retail for $1 at Target stores nationwide. The 400% markup on identical merchandise from the same manufacturer makes the seemingly affordable Magic Kingdom souvenir one of the worst value propositions at the Central Florida theme parks.

X (formerly Twitter) user @Kdodgers24 spotted a display January 27 of rubber ducks dressed as Disney characters in the Emporium at Magic Kingdom Park. The Disney Park guest posted photographs of the collection with the caption:

We have a new merchandise line-disney ducks for $5.

The $4.99 rubber ducks wear costumes inspired by Donald Duck, Elsa, Ariel, Winnie the Pooh, Tigger, Minnie Mouse, Mickey Mouse, Olaf, Maleficent, and Toy Story (1995) aliens, among others.

At first glance, a sub-$5 souvenir at Walt Disney World Resort appears refreshingly affordable, particularly for items targeting young children. However, the ducks represent terrible value once guests discover their actual retail price.

The same manufacturer has supplied identical Disney character rubber ducks to Target stores across the United States for at least a year. The ducks typically appear in Bullseye's Playground—the retail area formerly known as Dollar Spot at store entrances—where they cost $1 each.

The retailer has even offered several seasonal variants. Christmas 2025 brought Stitch, Angel, Minnie Mouse, and Mickey Mouse holiday ducks:

400% Disney World Souvenir Markup Exposed

Disney Park guests expect premium pricing for merchandise, food, and beverages at Walt Disney World Resort. Location convenience, theming, and the vacation atmosphere justify some markup. However, a 400% price increase for mass-produced rubber ducks identical to those sold at discount retailers stretches reasonable premium pricing into exploitation territory.

Families purchasing multiple ducks as affordable souvenirs could spend $25-$30 at Magic Kingdom Park, whereas the same items would cost $5-$6 at Target. The markup becomes particularly egregious when guests discover the truth after returning home and encountering the same ducks during routine Target shopping trips.
