Walt Disney World’s Latest Shutdowns, Find Out What’s Going Dark This Week

Planning a trip to Disney World is exciting, but sometimes, unannounced closures can throw a wrench in the works. Don’t let these surprise changes derail your vacation! We’ve got the latest updates on which attractions, dining spots, and even water parks you’ll need to keep an eye on between May 4th and May 11th, 2025. Here’s everything you need to know so your plans stay on track:

EPCOT: Test Track Gets a Makeover

Test Track is officially closed for a reimagining. While the details are still coming in, we know it will reopen in the summer of 2025 with a new design and a fresh partnership with General Motors. If you’re a fan of the original World of Motion ride, you’re in for a nostalgic treat!

Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach: Get the Dates Right

Typhoon Lagoon is back in action, but Blizzard Beach is temporarily closed for refurbishment. However, don’t fret—both water parks will be open at the same time from May 21st through September 7th, 2025, so make sure to plan your water park adventures accordingly!

Magic Kingdom: Major Refurbishments

Some of the park’s iconic attractions are getting makeovers:

  • Dumbo the Flying Elephant’s Indoor Playground is closed until Spring 2025, but the ride itself remains open.

  • Big Thunder Mountain Railroad won’t reopen until 2026 for a complete overhaul.

  • Astro Orbiter is being taken off-site for refurbishment and will be back by summer 2025.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom: Big Changes Coming

Goodbye to It’s Tough to Be a Bug, which closed on March 17th for a new show, Zootopia: Better Zoogether! opening in winter 2025. The Pueblo Esperanza expansion is also well underway in DinoLand U.S.A., with several attractions already closed for good.

Dining & Entertainment Updates

Several eateries and shows are undergoing changes:

  • Mama Melrose’s at Hollywood Studios closes forever on May 11th to make room for new attractions.

  • The Hall of Presidents will be closed until later in 2025 for updates.

  • Jellyrolls, the beloved piano bar at Disney’s BoardWalk, has permanently closed as of April 19th. A new home for the venue may be in the works, but details are scarce.

  1. I do enjoy The Hall Of Presidents & it look through history. Very educational too. Hope I can go back at a later time after & when it reopens. Everyone misses it besides myself.
