Theme Park at Disney World To Close Down Next Week

If you’re heading to Walt Disney World Resort next week with plans to hit the water slides, you may need a backup plan.

Disney has confirmed that Blizzard Beach Water Park will close temporarily on Monday, February 23, and Tuesday, February 24, 2026, due to an incoming cold front expected to bring much lower temperatures to Central Florida.

Forecast models show highs hovering in the upper 50s to low 60s, with overnight lows sliding into the 30s. That’s well below the range typically considered comfortable for a day spent in and around the water.

Meteorologists are already tracking the system’s path. “A strong cold front, currently draped across Central Texas, is expected to approach Central Florida by Sunday morning,” writes Click Orlando. “While some spotty showers and downpours are likely, especially after 7 a.m., rainfall totals are forecast to stay under a quarter of an inch for most areas. Most of this rain looks to head toward southern counties like Osceola and Brevard.”

The outlet goes on to warn of a noticeable temperature drop once the rain clears. “sharply-colder air is expected to move in along with breezy conditions.” It adds, “Daytime highs will tumble to 58 degrees by Monday and the start of the workweek could feel even chillier with lows dipping into the 30s and 40s, especially when factoring in the wind.”

Even heated pools can’t fully offset those kinds of numbers, especially with gusty winds in the mix.

What makes this closure stand out is that Typhoon Lagoon Water Park is already closed for refurbishment. The tropical-themed park ended its latest operating season on February 14. Blizzard Beach reopened February 15 to maintain Disney’s now-standard alternating water park schedule.

Since 2020, Walt Disney World has generally kept one water park open while the other undergoes maintenance. It’s a system designed to provide year-round access while allowing for routine updates and improvements.

However, on February 23 and 24, guests won’t have either option available.

Blizzard Beach had just resumed operations after its own refurbishment period. While the park’s storyline centers on a melting ski resort complete with snow-capped theming, real winter conditions in Florida are a different story. Disney has long implemented temperature guidelines for its water parks and closes them when forecasts dip too low, focusing on guest safety and overall experience.

Current expectations are that Blizzard Beach will reopen on February 25, once temperatures climb back into a more typical Florida range. Guests visiting during this stretch should monitor official park hours online in case additional adjustments are made.

There is, however, a major silver lining for water park fans planning later trips.

Disney has announced that beginning May 12, 2026, both Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon will operate simultaneously through the summer season. That’s a notable development, as extended periods with both parks open at the same time have become far less common in recent years.

The change should offer more flexibility during the busy summer months and help balance crowds between the two distinct water parks.

Blizzard Beach delivers a whimsical alpine setting complete with chairlifts and snowy details, while Typhoon Lagoon immerses guests in a tropical storm aftermath filled with surf and shipwreck theming. Having both experiences available in one vacation window gives guests additional variety during peak travel season.

For now, though, winter weather is calling the shots. The brief February shutdown serves as a reminder that even in Florida, temperatures can occasionally interfere with outdoor operations.

Once the cold front moves out and conditions stabilize, Blizzard Beach is expected to continue operating as the resort’s sole water park until Typhoon Lagoon’s refurbishment concludes and the dual-park summer season officially begins in May.
